What are the good bits/bad bits?

If you are a person who likes to "fix things" such as problems, who will listen to both sides of a story before you make a decision of who's right and who's wrong. Detail oriented, careful in how you conduct yourself at work with people, able to keep confidences, able to listen well and be able to sort through facts - then this is for you.

Some times you have to separate yourself from others in the company. Can't go party with the group or it could kill your credibility. Have to be able to stay neutral between management and employees.

This will be a little brief, but here goes...

Good: can work in a variety of segments of the field (recruitment/selection, t&d, compensation, etc.) with advancement opportunity as you broaden your knowledge and gain experience, enjoyable career if you like to help others by nature

Bad: it's tough to break into the field right out of school, you almost have to start as an HR Assistant, which means pay isn't great right away

From personal experience, I say yes and no depending on what you are interested in.

If you like recruiting, coaching, payroll, and all the stuff that assist people/employees, then it's a fit. HR is not going to be exciting because it deals with human relations. It could be exciting if you love that field, though.

I personally don't like it besides the recruting part. It's not the field that I want to go into. I am trying to get out of this field and go into something else that I love.

good bits - help people with queries and problems, contribute to a positive workforce, help implement policies that benefit both employees and employers, link between higher management, policies and people who make the company function..
bad bits - perceived as being idiots (like some replies) have to discipline people

Its a great career to get into. Every person I've met in HR is an idiot so if you're slightly inteligant and can use a pc you'll be a god!

I litterally had to show this woman at HR how to attach a file .. How sad is that?

Oh it pays good too

It may be a little more boring than you count on depending on your position. If you have a masters in psych you will be able to do motivational things. mediations or more employee training which can be fun projects.
