1. Download the yahoo tool bar. It has an inbuilt pop-up blocker which is quite effetive.
2. Upgrade your internet explorer to the latest one. You can download that from microsoft site.

you don't need software. Firefox rocks when it comes to 'pop-up ads' prevention. got to Tools->Options and click the 'Content' tab. check 'Block pop-up windows'.

try going to www.grisoft.com and downloading the free version of avg, its a good anti-virus program.
there is another one called lavasoft out there too.
