The feeling of being close to Jesus definitely comes and goes! That is why christians are advised not to rely upon feelings, otherwise we'd be led a merry dance! There's a lot of 'touchy-feeliness' about these days, giving us the impression that we're close to God when maybe we're actually not!

However, there is something which is very close to a 'feeling' which you develop as you walk with the Lord. After a while, you can say 'I don't feel, but I KNOW'. Are we just messing about with semantics here? No, this is knowing God at a deeper level.

However, when you are a young person, it is natural that the things of the world will exert an influence and you will find that you wish to spend more time 'having a good time' than with God. It is normal, it happens to all of us. The world exerts a 'pull' and it is easy to drift.

Look in the Scriptures: people drifted away from God all over the place (eg. king David, even Jesus' followers) and even ran away from God's calling (eg. Jonah). It's a challenge, but the question is, when the challenge comes, what do we DO about it?

I think David was about the biggest 'drifter' you ever could get! Look at him when he was young, singing on his harp, composing psalms to God while he guarded the sheep right up to the time when Samuel anointed him. He was the least of his brethren, a truly humble soul. God, who looks at the heart and not at the outward appearance, saw in David something he could work with.

But, even in David there arose soon after ungodly passions and he did some wicked acts. He was a bit of a womaniser too, don't you think? God was working with him, and it was all coming out. You see, it had to.

What did David do when these ungodly passions rose up within him? He sought the Lord in prayers, many of which are recorded for us in the Psalms. Here you see a man grappling with the perversities of his own nature. Everything is coming out and God is making David deal with it. But, of course, he couldn't deal with it alone; he had to pour it out before God, who alone could deal with it.

When David sinned with Bathsheba, he had to repent BIG TIME and it wasn't until Bathsheba's child had died that the matter was finally settled before God. You see, no matter how much you sin, there is repentance, but it may cost you and those you love immensely.

As you go on with God, he shows you what you are. Get this straight : we are sinners saved by grace. It really helps to know this. Forget about the 'I am the righteousness of God' stuff! It's all pride.

But, as we go on with God (ie. pursue him), we find that the taste for sinning lessens and the pull of the world decreases. Sometimes we fall, but we get up, repent and get right with God again and 'he is faithful to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness'.

How to get closer to Jesus? It's a lifelong walk, during which, as I said before, you get to know yourself a lot better than you did at the beginning. Be patient, like God. He is SO patient!

Firstly, I have to say, that Jesus is repelled by any sin in our life so, if you want to get close to him PUT IT RIGHT.

Secondly, if you want to get closer to him, learn to love the things that he loves and follow after them, as this pleases him and you will sense his approval (though fleetingly - get used to it - you have to grow up!). What does Jesus love? Why, he told you in the Scriptures. Study the Scriptures to find these things out.

Thirdly, you need to obey him, for Jesus loves all people, but he gets close, not only to those who keep themselves pure, not only to those who love him wholeheartedly by studying what pleases him, but most especially to those who OBEY him. After all, if you don't obey him, your faith isn't real, is it? He isn't actually your Lord, is he?

Where can you find what he wants so you can obey him? You've got it - in the Scriptures. Don't leave that Bible (I hope it's not a paraphrased one) lying dusty on the shelf. What message are you sending to God when you do that? That you are serious about knowing him? Get the Bible down, study it, and it will impart faith to you, the knowledge of his will and what pleases him, deep joy and - the sense of his presence!

Oh, I haven't mentioned the Holy Spirit and your prayer life! Christ has not left us orphans ... There's so much of God to get into.

I have never felt far my God Almighty! I would have to say that from many of the things I have run into latley, SOMEONE DOESN'T KNOW IMAGES THAT WELL. Just for keep sake I had to ask, "Where in the hell did she get her stupid, idiotic, NON-REALISTIC knowledge from!?!" Cause I am sitting over here on this side with the knolwedge from the Image of God Himself. Plus, SHE ISN'T THE ONLY ONE ON MY BACK. I have been in this war since I was about 9 or 10, if ya know what I mean! I have got all the experience in my dreams, visions, and prayers to go in this with my eyes closed (or shall I say, IN THE DARK) to ruin her spiritually. She is going to end in nothing, all alone in the dark for all eternity, and that goes for all the people who WANT to get stupid and follow her. So be it, none of them will be missed. Good case of the blind leading the blind. She was never meant to make it out alive. Yes, there are/were people that knew this. Than she will LEARN with wide open eyes, with the rest of her worthless life she can muster the CREATOR GOD ALMIGHTY LOVES ME!

First get any unrepented sin out of your life by repenting and asking for forgiveness. Second ask the Holy Spirit to fill you. Trust that He did and will. Get in the word. Maybe even take note whether you are failing to grow because of spiritual needs are not meet due to your church and also lack of spending time with God. If any of these things fit. Take time to read your Bible and pray daily, asking God to help you. And maybe find a new church home that will challenge you and help you in your growth.

This happened to me and I think it was because I got out of fellowship and stop reading my bible..then I started to feel a void in my life and realized it was becasue I had allowed my relationship to fall apart. I began to pray more and now I am back to feeling the very presents of the lord Jesus Christ.

We all drift from time to time........

Just stay in His word.......pray all the time.....and hang out with people of like & precious faith.

Find some Christian friends and make yourself accountable to them......sort of like an accountability group, if you will. It really helps to stay focused on the Lord.

Just remember the bottom line:
Once you are saved, you CANNOT forfeit that salvation. It is for all eternity.

Immerse yourself in the Gospels and Acts. Surround yourself with believers who are passionate about the Lord.

Yes I was close to Jesus and drifted - it is basically called marriage and divorce. I thought he was Jesus (God) when I married him and 8 years later, I realised he wasnt so we divorced. It's just reality, you learn to live with it. Sorry!

I went through this, and realized that the times I felt closest to Jesus were times when I needed emotional support, so I manufactured it.
