The common cold can be caused by nearly 250 different viruses. It's just too difficult for scientists to prepare a vaccine that protects against all of the cold viruses. Also, there's less need for a cold vaccine. Colds are minor infections of the throat, nose, and sinuses. Colds generally come and go with no serious complications. You're miserable for a few days, then it's over

There is no need to work on a cure for the common cold. The human body can deal with it all on it's own, with the help of a few pills to alleviate the symptoms.

Hopefully resources will be directed at finding cures for conditions which kill rather than something so trivial.

The problem with common colds is that it's not caused by one specific type of virus. Rather there are several types of viruses known to cause common colds (e.g. rhinovirus, coronavirus etc...)

Naturally it is impossible to have a drug which will be equally effective in treating these different types viruses, at least in near future.

But don't worry, a normal healthy human being, with help from an aspirin and hot honey-lemon tea can recover from any cold, really...

It is good to have cold and things like that, it keeps your immune system working

if we kept taking pills for every little sniffle what would happen when we got a really bad illness

we wouldn't be able to fight it off!

There already is one, but it's too expensive to mass produce.
A cold is caused by a virus and viral infections, e.g. HIV are difficult to cure. Antibiotics does not help.

If there is, I'm sure that people will take even MORE stupid pills than the mulitiude they're already taking. This has become like a cult, and people look to pills as the answer for everything.
