So we are told that god (pick one you like) chooses to remain anonymous. Is this just a coincidence or do atheists have the right idea?

"God", is not anonymous, she/he is in everything, you, me, nature, space, everything, it is only the people who CHOOSE not to see her/him, that she/he remains anonymous to.

Athiests themselves have a lot of "missing info", more so than just the sight of "god".

Anyone who has started to walk a spiritual path will tell you that "god" is very very far from anonymous, but in us and with us each day.
Blessed Be!

Zeus was not anonymous. He made SEVERAL visits...usually to comely young maidens, true...

Once you get out of the realm of what we think of as myth, then you lose the directness of a god's involvement in life. In the Judeo-Christian god, there is a lack of a name even. Just God...or I Am....etc. No name.

But, if we look at history, we can see that Greek and Roman gods were extremely present in their writings, and many people claimed to have had direct involvement with their gods. I often wonder...why are the stories of Jupiter less believeable than the ones of the old testament? Why are Greek and Roman religions classified as myth, and others are seen as religions? There are many similarities between myths and religious stories.

I've never heard that any gods choose to remain anonymous; merely that there is no scientific evidence to prove beyond doubt the existence of such. Many people claim to have communicated with deity, and this does not indicate anonymity.

Gos "IS" All in All. Remaining anonymous is a human perception. Atheists give up everything except Denial!

Not coincidence, more like the metaphor of God as a gigantic person who could appear and intervene is incorrect in any religion. But that doesn't mean there isn't something more, something that transcends all our words and images we could come up with to describe it or even think about it. [Note: In Christianity this is ultimately called apophatic theology.]

There is a beautiful flower that grows right by my front door.

If I never look at it... is it choosing to remain anonymous?
If I am too busy with my life rushing here and there distracted by all the thoughts in my head and look right at it but never see it... does it not exist?
If I go looking for it consumed with excitement and eager anticipation walking right by it to look in the garden...is it hiding from me?

It is just the way human beings are, mostly unaware of what is right in front of them.

Who told that?
The Lord, does not disclose Himself to a materialistic and atheist persons. This is confirmed in Bhagavad-gétä (7.25): nähaà prakäçaù sarvasya yoga-mäyä-samävåtaù. "I am never manifest to the foolish and unintelligent. For them I am covered by My internal potency, and therefore they do not know that I am unborn and infallible".
Rather, by yoga-mäyä, the Lord remains concealed to the nondevotees or casual devotees who are serving their sense gratification. The Lord is never visible to the sense enjoyers. The conclusion is that the Lord cannot become the order supplier of of this type of persons, but He is always prepared to respond to the desires of a pure, unconditional devotee, who is free from all tinges of material infection.

I suppose the false gods of Islam, Buddhism, etc do remain anonymous. As for the God of Heaven and Earth, only the most blind and deaf of soul would miss his ever presence in creation. Surely your are blind and deaf are you?

it depends on what one defines a god to be. If one's emporer is a god, then that god exists. If one defines gods as archetypes of human behavior/global phenomenon, those archetypical concepts exist. If one defines gods as nonphysical beings that one visits via altered states of consciousness, then while in such states of consciousness, they can be as un-anonymous as one experiences. But an allegedly all-powerful singular god that is supposedly going to condemnn and judge because we fail to find credibility with a bunch of borderline-pschitzos who claim to speak for him... that one I'll give to the atheists.

Ultimately, that is a decision that you have to make. I don't see where my God is anonymous. My God is very concrete in my life. If yours is concealed, it may be time to examine your beliefs.
