A guy at my college wanted to take a picture of me on his phone, I said no. He kept and asking and asking and asking, and I was getting annoyed and kept saying no. Eventually, he took one of my descreatly without my permission. (He was pretending he was typing a text message). I was so annoyed I grabbed his phone, deleted the picture, and threw it on the other side of the room for him to fetch it. Is it just me, or is that out of order when someone does that to you? It's an invasion of privacy, and quite pervey if you think about it. I'm the type of person person who can take a joke by all means, but this really ticks me off.

Who else finds this really rude?

Wow, I would've done the exact same thing! As a matter of fact, I wouldn't have thrown it. I would've flat out broken it (sorry if I get thumbs down for that, but something like that would've ROYALLY pissed me off!). First of all, even if I DO know the person taking my picture, I don't exactly like having my picture taken. Secondly, no means NO. This guy sounds really creepy and really rude. If he talks to you again, talk to the professor.

I agree with you, and find it incredibly bad manered and offensive for people to do that.

There have actually been some court cases here in Sydney (Australia) about this, and on most occasions the phone camera owner has lost.

People do find it pervey and nasty.

BUT, there is also a rule that professional photographers and film makers can take your pic without permission and even use it in the background of their photo/movie, whetever, as though you were scenery!

I'm not sure how the two things square off, but be careful throwing people's phones about ~ he could be bold enough to try and get YOU in trouble!

Take care and best wishes :-)

You may be unaware, but that is one of the points of having a camera on a phone, so pictures can be stealthfully taken.

If you think about it, when someone takes a picture on their cell phone, it just looks like they're using their cell phone, it doesn't look like they are taking a picture. This phenomenon is not an accident.

It is rude what that guy did, however the idea of proper etiquette seems to be lost by many these days. I don't know what has caused so many bad manners, but it is sorely lacking these days.

I'm afraid you have a problem...you are a hotty / babe. This is curable by bad driving without a seatbelt or airbag. If you don't want to take that extreme action you are just going to have to accept people find you attractive. This means guys will want to have bragging rights by showing how hot the chicks at his college are. You could check your local laws but at least he asked permission (which is just his small appendage bowing down before a goddess) hoping she will acknowledge his pathetic little existence. Either dress up in one of those cute light blue taliban womens outfits or tell him to buy you some jewelery (works for paris)

Taking pictures in a public place without permission might be rude but it is not illegal. Taking unauthorized pictures in a private place is. At least it is in this country.

A college might be seen as being a private property.

I see two possibilities.
1) He likes you but being a socially inept guy he is too scared to ask you out.
2) He is a bully and is taking your picture to mock you.

I find it rude and a bit creepy.

I was in a restaurant the other day with my boyfriend and on the table next to us was a dad, his daughter and his son, when the dad and daughter got up to go to the toilet the son started pointing his phone straight at me as if he was taking a picture, when I looked at him he just smiled.

It's your right to privacy, but as I found out,if the picture is to be used for a media reason,ie... newspaper or other type of article then the freedom of speech act over-rides the right to privacy.
It was rude for him to take your picture anyway,I might have destroyed the phone myself.

I think that after denying him permission to take your photograph, you should have left the room. Your behaviors make your aggressor look like your victim.

What I find really rude is you, the college student, with the lack of respect you have for the people reading your post.

Although my first language is French and I never attended English school, I noticed many typing, spelling and syntax mistakes in your question and comment.

Out of respect for the people reading you, an effort to read your text and use the "check spelling" button before submitting your message would have been appreciated.

Don't take me wrong, I am not attacking you, I am simply taking advantage of this situation to vent about my pet peeve.
