No more corporate welfare. Everybody gets two attempts to qualify, and the fastest cars get in.

I am sentimental enough to allow one former champion's provisional. Winning that Cup ought to have some perks.

Oddly enough, the NHRA uses a straightforward qualifying procedure with no provisionals. Sometimes John Force, Warren Johnson, or other stars don't make it into the race. And yet they, their sponsors, and the sport all survive somehow. (Force missed a race earlier this year, but was still in contention for the championship until his wreck two weeks ago.)

If qualifying is rained out, that would be a good time to revive the top-35 thing. Remaining cars are seeded according to how well they did at the same race the previous year.

Go back to the old way of qualifying. Top 38 get the spots they qualify in. The next four spots go to the cars with the most amount of owner's points that are not in the top 38. The final spot being the champions provisional or, if there is no past champion, the fifth highest team in points not already in the race.

I would make every race an impound race. I mean taking off pulleys to give the car more horse power that seems a bit ridiculous to me. Joe Nemicheck did that at tal. I think it would put the best cars/drivers in the front where they belong. It would eliminate these jokers that totally tweak the car for qualifying and then fall straight back because they can not race or they have inferior equipment.

There was not a thing wrong with the old system. The new one has to go. To many good driver are sent home for a lump on the log driver that might be 35th. Don't know how these NASCAR A holes can sleep at night.

I agree with racenut1. I fthey are stupid enought admit they cheated when they fell out as NEmacheck did then they deserve to get a stiff fine as tought the officials had caught it.
But for my thoughts you want to have the race competiton stay a competiton. Here it is You get the rqcers who have been constistant all year round, for the top 12 all the way through, that would start right off. Then you would see the drivers who hang back till the chase starts (like Tony) and then kick it into gear, have to race their way in all the time make them earn their checks instead of just working of it in the end. then you will see the real contenders for the cup. You might see a change in who runs in the top all the time, but I gurantee that would make for racing to be more exciting.

Quite honestly, it should be made a lot more like your local short track. There should be heat races (10 laps) where starting positions are determined by a draw. Then the bottom 4 from each heat go to a C-main (30 laps). The next 4 go to the B-main (50 laps), and the top few go directly to the A-main Feature (250 miles). Just a thought.

Go back to the old way of having to qualify and only have 4
provisional spots for past champions and winners. And
have those limited to be used only 5 times for each driver.
And if a driver makes the chase, presuming that they keep
the chase, the chase drivers have to automatically qualify.
Or else it wouldn't really be a chase, would it.

Complicated.
All cars must take a lap.
No provisionals.
No top 35 in points.
Top 43 quailify and race until chase, then 36 quailify.
During chase the 12 chase contenders are locked in.
