Why shrink it.These are still free rides to teams.
Drop the top 35.
Drop Provisionals.
The fastest 43 cars race.
Exception would be the chase contenders, during the chase these 12 are locked in.

I think they should let the cars out of the top 30-35 race their way in like the twin 150s for the Daytona 500. When you think about it its a win win for everyone envolved. First of all how many tickets does the track sell on Qualifying day? This would give some people a chance to see the drivers that they might not alway see. Take Mikey early this year, he didnt make a race until he was well into the season. Under this type of system he could run 50-100 miles in a qualifying race. While he is not giving NAPA national coverage, he is still giving them some kind of coverage. As a result you will get a few casual fans showing up at the track to see qualifying and this qualifying race.

My rules- 50-75 miles, caution laps do not count, slowest qualifying starts in the back, fastest (of the non tops 35 drivers) gets to start in the front. Let them race it out!

So here you have a great situation for the cars who are not racing on Sunday to get a little racing experience, and not making the trip to the track for nothing!

I like it! Its much better than just running 3 laps and saying "we are too slow we have to go home."

What are you talking about. There should be no compromise PERIOD!!!
Get rid of this dumb *** rule. NASCAR has come up with so many of there back yard rules and you all are OK with it and I just don't understand. It must be that you never have watched any form of racing before IN YOUR SHORT LIFE and don't have a clue how things have worked perfectly good for many many years ESPECIALLY this rule. What a joke. I can't even imagine how they could have come up with something like this.
This ridiculous rule might and I say might because the chase is absurd too, work for the chase and the chase only to help keep outsiders from being in a race with you know, that sucks too. I can't stand either one of these rule throw them out and get back to the basic racing that has worked fine that I have watched for the last 50 years.
I guess it doesn't matter that you all are watching the same ole drivers every week that clutter the track when there are promising drivers with new teams or there personal teams trying to make a race that have to beat lumps on a log who barely make it to the track let alone be on the same lap at the end of the race.
You have sent home very good drivers before because there were too many drivers that qualified better that some of the top 35 and that is just wrong.
Unload this childish rule and let the good drivers drive on the track not home.
DON'T GET ME STARTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are NASCAR's dream employee. I have only read Y/A for weeks now without answering but this BS question has inspired me to break my silence.

All this sport is turning into is an arena for the rich and screw the little guy who's pockets may be light but his heart and soul are racing. I've been a fan for 20+ years and every single year these insulting rules keep pushing out good racers and smaller outfits - say Wood Brothers for example, keep getting pushed further and further and back faster and faster not only because of finances but these screwy rules like say, TOP 35.

It's called racing - the fastest should be racing in order according to fastest qualifying times. &*^$ this crap of top anything else. I miss the late 80's when $hit was real and people were real fans. Racing is losing it's true roots, meaning and appeal to vintage fans.

We need to see Nascar go back to its roots. If you qualify for the race you run the race. If you are 44th you go home. All I have seen about this top 35 drivers make the race seem to be unlike by us as the fans. It seem we want to see the REAL qualifier make the Rase. COME ON NASCAR get with it. So what if Jeff Gordon ,Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin, Or even Little E Doesn't Make the race. If you had to Make the top43 Qualifier to be in the race then so be it. Just showing up and running a lap doesn't cut it. Iknow the sponsers have to get their air time but come on lets see what we the fans want. The rules they have todayonly help the big named teams. Nascar please let the drivers settle things on the track.Help the teams out that are small and not punish them. by saying hey your not in the top35 so you have to go home after qualifing 7th because we need Jeff Gordon who qualified 45 at talladega in the race. boy I coulld go on for days about this issue Of the top 35 rule. Just drop it and let all the real 43 qualifiers race. As for the Question about shrinking to the top32 get real. All it seems to me your siding with Nascar to protect the Big Name teams.

What ever happened to letting the "fastest cars" race? Whats wrong with that?

The slowest car that went home this past weekend would have started 27th.... but then Harvick, gordon and the bush boys would have had to compete to get in... rather than just show up....

Just like nascars "flex rules"...

edwards car too low..... 25 points and money
Kyle bush's car intake manifold.... Just money

How about.... your Car fails tech anytime after qualifying.... you go home that week and dont show up next week. Period.

That would make teams think a little harder about "grey areas."

too bad it will never happen.....

Amen!!! I think that they are leaving out a bunch of good cars. There is no reason that a car that qualified in the top 10 should be packing it in for the weekend. There are just too many spots that are guaranteed.

The first 10 should be set based on speed. 11th through 38th should be set based on a qualifying race. 39th through 43rd would go to the fastest five cars who did not qualify in the race.
