Yep, first time I ever applied to a job, and I have got an interview now!

This is for a job at Subway.

What sort of questions can I expect? Also, I don't have a suit or anything but I'm thinking it won't be a formal interview... so I can dress casually.

Also- Do they tell you at the interview if you have the job? Or do you have to wait, if so for how long?

Thanks!

Interview is tomorrow, I will tell you how it goes ^^

Congratulations on getting an interview.
1. Make sure you know a bit about Subway. It shows you are interested. Look at their website for information.
2. You probably don't have to dress formally, but do dress conservatively ie, muted colours, no tatoos or body piercings showing, no big jewellery
3. Present yourself as clean and neat - clean, brushed hair, clean body, clean shoes, neat nails etc. If you wear makeup, keep it low key
4. Arrive about five minutes early
5. Firm handshake and friendly smile when you meet the interviewer. Look them in the eye. They want to see that you can communicate with people
6. Ask questions about the role, the company, opportunity for training and advancement. Don't ask about salary, working hours, holidays, benefits etc until they have actually offered you a job
7. Have a few examples ready to back up anything you say about yourself. For example, if you say you are good at working in a team, have an example of when you worked well in a team in the past - it could have been a school project, that's fine
8. Prepare for the dreaded - what are your strong points and weak points question. Make sure you can turn your weak point into a positive. For example I'm passionate about always doing my best for people, and sometimes that means I over promise on what I can realistically do because I really want to help. I need to learn to have more realistic expectations when offering to help.
9. Have a fairly clear idea of what you want to do with your life and where you see yourself going in Subway. But don't be arrogant about it. Employers like people who are focused and have a clear plan. But don't say you want the interviewer's job. They have heard that one before and it sounds really lame.
10. Prepare for the 'How would your friends describe you?' question
11. If they ask you - So why should we give you the job? That's your opportunity to sum up all the good things you have said about yourself already in one easy to remember 30 second summary.
12. At the end of the interview they will ask you 'Do you have any questions?' You must always ask a couple of questions. If you sit there and shake your head you will look disinterested. As per point 6, ask about the company, the department you'll be in, more about the specific role etc.

At the end of the interview, smile, shake the interviewer's hand and thank them politely for their time. Then ask them when you can expect to hear back from them. If you think you would like to work with Subway, tell them. Don't plead, just express that you think it's a great company and you would really value the opportunity to work for them.

Good luck.

Try to dress smartly, even if it is going to be informal, wear a pair of black trousers, smart shoes, and a shirt, it just gives the right impression that you made the effort. That is what most people wear to interviews, so don't worry about being over-dressed

Everywhere is very different, you may get interviewed one on one by the manager, or you may have to take part in a group interview first this usually occurs often in large retail shops and possibly subway where they get a lot of application forms. A group interview will be a chance to show how you communciate in a group, they'll give you a small easy task to complete for an hour or so, and then you'll either be told to come back for the next stage of the interview in a few days or they'll do it there and then and will interview each person separatly

During a one-to-one interview, the interviwer will ask you a few question similar to what you were asked in the application form (what experience have you had, when are you free to work etc), plus they'll ask you questions like "if you were in this situation what would you do" Dont worry too much about them though, they're all common sense questions that everyone knows

And finally, it's completely up to the firm whether they tell you there and then if you've got it, dont assume that you haven't got it if they dont tell you there and then, quite often the interviewer has to report back to the store/restuarent manager before a final decision is made

Good luck!

(My first interview was rubbish - i turned up wearing quite informal stuff, i couldn't find where i was supposed to go, the interview went terribly etc! But it's a good thing, because the next interview i went to a couple of months later i knew what to expect more, and i got the job there!)

First of all i wouldnt go too casual. Maybe wear trousers and a shirt. Keep the makeup and accessories low key. Dont wear anything too low cut or thats seen better days. If you look scruffy at the interview what are you gonna look like on a work day? You're trying to impress them so dress to impress. Don't worry that you havent got a suit, just dress as smart as you can.

As for the sort of questions they might ask - Why do you want the job? Can you give us an example of when you've received good customer experience? What would you do if a customer wasnt satisfied/ got angry / wasnt happy? What do you know about subway? Give an example of when you've worked well in a team? Maybe something about accuracy - subway like you to put a set amount on a sandwich eg 3 slices of tomato, 1 scoop of cheese, they dont like if if you exceed that.

Chances are they won't tell you at the interview if you've got the job. Usually they will phone and tell the person whose got it. Afterall they might be interviewing ten people for the job and chances are you wont be the 10th. The rest they might let down by letter. Ask at your interview when they will let you know.

At the end of the interview they will give you a chance to ask some questions so make sure you have some prepared like how much training would you be given.

Be polite, smile, practise your handshake beforehand, answer the question you are asked, try and explain your answers and give examples where you can.

Think about the kind of person who works there and what they might be looking for ie someone whose friendly, polite and can make a sandwich - make sure you show that in your answers.

Above all good luck! You did really well to get an interview. I'm sure it will be the first of many.

Remember dont be too downcast if you dont get the job - just learn from the expereince and keep trying till you do get something. They probably got 100s of applicants and only interview about 10 if that so you did well to get that far.

Fingers crossed for you that you get it.

You've got some great advice already. All those suggestions above are good ones. Dress casually, but DO NOT wear shorts, a t-shirt or flip-flops to the interview. I hope this goes without saying, but you'd be amazed at how many people I interview who dress this way. Of course, my first impression is that they're not seriously looking for work. Wear a nice pair of dress slacks with either a dress shirt that buttons up the front or a collared polo-type shirt and nice looking shoes. No need to wear a tie.

Don't answer the interviewer's questions with "yeah" or "yep" or "nope." Sit up straight and answer questions honestly and only give as much information as you're asked for. Ask questions of your own. And it's perfectly okay to ask what the job pays and when they'll want you to start work. But also ask questions about advancement opportunities. You don't want to be a Sandwich Artist forever, but you can make a good career with Subway or any other fast-food company. Think in terms of moving up.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

first interviews.. yikes.. basically fast food places wont turn employers away from you... they will most likely ask you things like (depending on the kind of person the manager is)

how are you doing today
they will probably ask you to tell them a little about yourself
*try to mention school and family*
then probably go on to ask about hobbies and such

it should be a quick interview i would say probably 3-5 minutes.. and dont think of it as an interview.. think of it more as a important phone call and you will do fine..

after the interview either they will tell you if you have the job and when you'll be starting.. a lot of times there will be a follow up interview which is more like meeting a different manager and getting a schedule
or they will tell you they will call you (which is always the answer you dont want) i always liked yes or no

good luck buddy & just remember... important phone conversation

Well done on getting the interview. There is obviously something they like about you, so they just want to meet you in person to lay eyes on you and see how you are about talking to strangers...don't be shy...don't be over the top.

It wont be formal but dont dress too casually, dress respectfully and clean. They will ask you about customer service (tell them you love people), they will want to know what sort of shifts you can work (be open and reliable), they may ask you what sort of money you want (don't be greedy it's your first job). Arrive about 5-10mins early (shows you are eager and that they can depend on you turning up to your shift on time). Also let them know that you eat subway all the time, this way they will know that you have an idea of how their set up works.

GOOD LUCK!!! let us know how you go!!

Don't worry, dress smart casual. Subway is pretty relaxed and if is anything like where i live they are full of polish people. just be your self and relax it will be okay honest and upfront is the best. You may not hear right a way but give it a couple of days then call them but don't be too eager to find out they may have a few interviews but i am sure you will do fine.

hello

first of all they won't tell you at the interview whether you have the job or not.

They will ask you what skills/relevant experience you have and why you should be considered for the job, so think carefully about these things before the interview..

good luck!!
