Email marketing - what is usual cpm?

I know there are lots of companys that run competition sites which exist solely to collect email addresses. What would you expect to pay per thousand emails?

What rates do you think they would drop to?

Spam & Junk mailers sell email addresses by the Mb ..
Last I heard it was about $50 per 650Mb (one CD's worth = approx 1,000,000 addresses).

You sometimes see them on eBay (although ebay often removes the auction as soon as some-one reports it) .. you could try other auction sites ..

A friend of mine bought six million emails for $400. But I must caution you. He didn't get one sale from the enormous number of hits he received on his web site.

Since none of the people actually opted in to receive his email, it was all SPAM. Any list you buy is SPAM no matter what they tell you.

When he looked at where the hits came from, they were from places all over the world, very few were from the USA. None were qualified.

Sending SPAM doesn't work if you are trying to sell a legitimate product or stay in business for more than just a few days.
