Yes... Christianity (and all other religions) are simply cults that have been around for a long time...
Cults all prey on the disinfranchised who are seeking acceptance. By asking the absurd of followers the cults are able to weed out those on the fringes of belief and are left with a core group which is easily manipulated and controlled...
If the absurd is not asked of followers the cult loses power because the belief is not tested and the members on the fringe exert some influence on others...
All very classis cult manipulation techniques...
Addition.... Chief Wiggum... 1 N not 2... The least you could do is get my name right especially when you choose to type it all in CAPS...
Desiree you too.... Grrrrr 1 N
U96 too...
Maybe I should just add another N it seems to be a trend....

An acquaintance was on L Ron Hubbard's yacht sometime in the late 60s.
He overheard someone say: They'll never go for that.
L Ron Hubbard replied: Let's see how stupid they really are.
Scientology has grown in leaps and bounds all from the pen of L Ron Hubbard - a fairly successful si-fi author who realised that there is really good money to be made from religion, treating it or pushing it, IF you can keep a straight face.
You’re right - the absurdities have their own way of keeping the suckers sucked in.
If they were to be diluted, especially the one about going to hell, there'd be too little stick left to keep them on the straight and narrow - by their own admission they'd have nothing to hang their moral standards on.

They believe because it is absurd.
Without miracles how could it be Christianity.
Without the walk on water born of a virgin raised from the dead zombie jesus god the religion would be just another set of suggestions on how to get along with ither humans.
Only one set of such suggestion out of hundreds of such sets.
If they did not claim absurd beliefs their power would evaporate and they would have no more power than atheists do.

It's power of influence is only over those who choose to seek out some absurdity and translate some meaning into their lives.

If they were less absurd... ironically enough.... the followers might feel a little more courageous about asking questions, and a little more likely to find out just how absurd it is.
As it stands, it ends up being so ridiculous that the real world is incredibly alien and unfamiliar to them... and as such they're afraid to even poke their toes into it.

your question reminded me a years old event , that one Hollywood star switched to catholic from protestant, when asked why he chose to be catholic he replied "because it is more absurd",
But away from this jokey event,it is really sad to notice that many Christians are becoming Atheists due to so many contradictions in the Bible,
Honestly speaking my own opinion about Christians is that " they are religious orphans, they lost their prophet, they lost their book.

Power of influence can be made stronger if absudity - human amendments, false inspiration, is excluded in the light of real teachings of Jesus Christ. Follow Red-lined Bible and here you will find another Jesus... man-Jesus... predicting Another prophet who will testify him and tell you what he could not do!
