the size of your house does not matter ,, it is the amount of time and dedication to exercising your pet that matters most.. hey, a saint bernard could live with you in a tent if you were planning on hiking all day long every day with him..

so first, decide if you plan on having your dog as a performance dog (agility, herding, obedience) then decide if you plan on taking your dog jogging daily, etc. etc. then decide on the breed..
if you just want to buy a dog and let it hang out inside.. go for a smaller breed.
a calm house dog is a retired greyhound, HOWEVER, they should be leash walked couple times a day in order to keep them happy and healthy,,

DO you get what i am trying to say? sometimes i cannot get my point across

good luck

A Pug is the best dog to get for a small house/apartment, because they are small, so they need less exercise and they won't cost alot like bigger dogs because they only need a little of food compared to a Lab. So I reccommend Pugs, they come in a variety of colours, and they are so cute!

i have jack russells, they are small dogs, but they do need loads of exercise, i guess you will need a small dog so you will have to look at small breeds. you are best going for a pedigree as you know exactly how big they will get

poodles are great for small spaces. and they don't shed or what they shed is so little u never know it.but u do have to have them groomed on a regular basis; or learn how to do urself.they are very good lapdogs, can be very protective, and most are very easy to train.

Depends what you want in a dog. Size of house means nothing.
