How far is Hawthorne from manhattan (say Times Square)? Is there heavy traffic? Is there cheap transportation?

I'll be staying at Hawthorne for the second and third weeks of November. I wanted to know how fast I can get to manhattan and what means of transportation there are. It might also be helpful to know what events are going on in the period.

There is also a Hawthorne, NY that is a 40 minute ride on Metro-North (Harlem Line) that goes to Grand Central, in case you were asking about that town.

Hawthorne NJ is only 40 minutes from manhattan
There is a train station in town and bus service to NYC
