I have been trying to search for RETAIL jobs for months. I really, really need a job, all my friends seemed to easily get one but me. I look younger than i am, im not small in height, i just look younger, which is why i don't think people will hire me. Its not fair! I hate this disadvantage, what can i do?

First of all, I want to say Hi!
It's my first time here...
You know what my friend, We almost have the same situation, that is of having a look, younger than what we should look like.
The worst is, I'm smaller than I should be, but I never really considered it as a problem, though sometimes I get mad when people treat me as younger.
I never had a problem with job hunting because of the younger look, it's maybe because of the "attitude" which I believe is very important when looking for a job, we look younger, yes, but we can think and act mature enough to handle a job, that's what you should try yourself to show to them.
And that's what I'm doing in years now.
I even have co-employees under me which are older(10 yrs and more).
Also, the type of clothing you have may add an additional attitude to you. Try to come up with something that would fit the job you're looking for.

I'm hoping that what I said may help you somehow.

Good Luck...I know you can make it,,,,Just believe in your self, that's the most important one.
So the next time you go out to hunt for another one, just always focus on the thought "that you will surely be able to get one", be positive in short.

God Bless!

You will be more likely to get a job in Fast Food than retail, particularly if you are still at school. I would recommend applying for a broader range of jobs if you need/ want a job desperately.
You might try dressing sophisticated, but not too over the top. I find that when I don't wear makeup people assume I am older than I am, but when I do wear makeup they think I am trying too hard to look older.

Look for a job in food service, not retail. Looking young is something that cannot be changed. I went to VietNam when I was 19 and couldn't buy ciggaretts when I returned home because my ID had to be forged according to the retailers and I was carded for liquor until I was 30. Its a real plus when your dating tho.

It depends on the State you live in (if you are in the U.S.). Some States don't allow a teenager to work without a permit until they are 15. Some States may make an exception. To find out I would recommend checking with your State's Dept of labor to see what the law states for extenuating circumstances.

Dress maturely and present yourself in a classy way - not juvenile. Never, ever give your resume to a store with your friends or family by you. That immediately nixes your chances of being considered for a position. Wear a bit of makeup - lip gloss, mascara, a bit of foundation - not a lot. Just enough to look polished. Accessorize and never go in looking for a job wearing casual shoes/clothes. Dress professionally.
Works for me.

Walk around looking mad all the time. My dad does that, and believe me, he looks old!
