Probably not the current pope. But I wouldn't put it past some of the medieval popes. (If you think the Catholic Church has money now imagine what it was like 500 years ago before the European kings got a hold of the monasteries and universities and plundered them...)

The Pope is not only the wealthiest man on earth, he is the most powerful man also. Premiers, Kings and Presidents vow before him. As if in paying homage to the "vicar of Christ" makes a man , a country , more blessed by God. Parish collects money from the people, submits a portion to the hierharchies and on to Vatican.. How many parishes in a country, how many Catholic countries support this structure. Yet the Parish priest must be creative to ask his parishioners for donations to improve his yard, people are burdened yet the Vatican is wallowing in riches, insatiable, wants more --all under the name of the Roman synthetic Christ! and that "precious" indulgence and blessing the pope could give. Christ gave freely, liberated people against Vaticanus insatiabilis " like this. when there's disaster, calamities , even in Catholic countries, you don't hear a large donation from Vatican-- but from the caring peoples of the world, Catholics or not. Unfortunately unknown to most, there are two popes, one white one black. Which one is the richest-- maybe the black Jesuit one. And now the catholic church is in its maximum overdrive to ask parishioners to put more in the collection plate. Quo Vadis?
