Some software will allow you to efile, and most tax preparers are set up to efile.

If your income is fairly low, you can efile through the IRS site or have your tax return prepared at no cost (and usually efiled) through a VITA site - see irs.gov for information on the VITA program - type VITA into the search box.

You have to go to a registered E-filer to electronically file a tax return.

And, the it is as simply as signing a form 8453 and mailing it after the return is accepted. Or in some cases you can even use an elctronic signature.

I hope this helps.

If your income is low enough you may be able to do it yourself for free. Go to irs.gov for info.
