This isn't a silly (or contentious) question at all. It is related to the classical philosophical problem of other minds. How do we know that anyone else exists, and is a person like ourselves, with mental states like our own? The only data we have immediate access to is the contents of our own mind, and the only mental operations we can experience directly are our own. How then can we know that someone else has a mind as well, and that it is like our own in important ways?
These are not simple questions. It sometimes seems as though any argument you may make can be refuted. A good discussion of this problem would require much more space than is provided here, so I am adding a link.

Why should YOU believe that I exist? Well, I don't think you SHOULD believe that I exist. I don't really care if you believe if I exist. Now if you wanted to make me exist in YOUR mind than I would exist. I would exist in your mind...but not in everyone's mind. So as you are reading this you may make the assumption that I exist, because if I didn't exist there would be no words here. Got it?

There is no other proof than me ending your existence and my continued existence afterward. That doesn't really prove anything to you though so I guess you'll have to decide that for yourself.
Just a word of warning though Mr. Narcissism, if you decide to believe that you are the only person in existence, you will likely make some very selfish choices that will cause one of us to put an end to you or lock you away from the rest of us until you die.

"Because my body displaces water. If I fill up my bathtub and get in it, the water level goes up. I like that. It proves I exist."
