You have two choices, and it is entirely up to you.
If she is a larger breed, it would be better to let her come into season once as this will ensure that she has all the hormones available to help her reach full growth.
Otherwise, spay her before her first season, but NOT when her season is about to start, if that is the case.
Either spay her before her first season, or 3 months after her first season. The only exception to this, is if the poor dog has a season, and then repeatedly comes into season soon after.
Whatever you do, unless she is a valuable breeding animal, you must spay her before her 1st birthday as this will prevent a multitude of problems later in life - most of them ultimately fatal.

6 months is a good age...i'm studying animal anatomy at moment and 6 months is about the right age as if the dog comes on heat before being spaded there is more chance of having health affects later on in life

my vet prefers to spay in between to first and second season Which is 12 weeks after the first day of the season. If you are worried you would not beable to keep her away from males he will do it after 6 months old. Talk to your vet

She's old enough to be spayed.
A lot of places now do "pediatric spay and neuter", which means that they do the surgery when they are still very young, only a few weeks old. However, for health reasons, a lot of people prefer to wait until they are 6 months old to have them spayed.

I purely have been given my 2 canines performed final 365 days. One grow to be 3 and the different grow to be 12. The 12 365 days previous necessary it because of the fact she grow to be getting unwell. they are the two completely nice now and the vet stated no longer something approximately age being a controversy aside from the anaesthatic for the older canines. 9 months is nice.

I myself like to wait till at least 8 mths. old to spay,.. so that ALL the female organs are fully developed and hormones in.
That is my preference, have had bad experiences with both cats and dogs when done earlier.
Also, in old age female's tend to be incontinent in their senior, when spayed at an early age and have been put on stilbestrilol hormone to remedy it for the rest of their lives.
But 6 mths. seems the norm nowadays,.. at least better than not fixing.

Wait until she has had 1 season + about 10 weeks. That way she is half way through her cycle and her hormones will have settled down. Spaying before she is mature, physically & mentally means she will never grow up and is more liable to suffer from spay incontinence.

The average seems to be 6 months, but my vet spayed my pup when she was 4 1/2 months. It probably differs from vet to vet.

12 weeks so you are in the clear. Take her quickly as they usually go into heat for the first time between 6 and 8 months.
