I do, From a historic standpoint and a cultural standpoint, the idea of God's and goddesses is very interesting to me. Do any of you study religious history just for fun?

Absolutely, I am fascinated by the bible, but from a mythological/cross cultural/"historical" point of view. I find all mythology extremely interesting.

I am also fascinated by what and why people believe. I truly do not understand why people chose to believe?

possibly, 'truth seekeer', yet i don't understand. God has no decision to faith yet weighs a persons' heart. Religions are man made and spirit is God make. seek for the truth and the truth will set you loose. It would not say seek for this or that faith and your faith will set you loose. the dominion of God is interior us, the very center of our being is spirit and that would want to correctly be experienced interior. Paramahansa Yogananda is a carry close of cohesion for both Hindu and Christian expertise. He has got here upon God interior both disciplines. what's non secular paintings and the non secular adventure besides the undeniable fact that the awakening of expertise into the truth of Being? in effortless terms believing something is authentic isn't sufficient. It might want to bring about action and that action might want to bring about overcoming the ego and ideas and organising the interest interior the truth, that God is the indwelling spirit interior all beings, the very stay and breath and ability interior.

Yes it is interesting from a cultural standpoint, that's why it floors me every time a christian on here asks why atheists come to this site. It's like asking "why study Greek Mythology if it never really happened?"

My brother-in-law is and has been an atheist for years--his PhD?--Philosophy & Religion.

I do on many different levels.

I have a certain curiosity about the tenents of each particular faith (what makes people believe the things they do).

I find mythology in all of its forms entertaining.

I've always had a certain interest in history, and since I have both Native American and European ancestory, religion has had an impact on both sides of my blood.

Religion has produced not only some of the world's greatest horrors, but some amazing literature, artwork, and even thought.

Actually, I find it quite interesting. I'm annoyed by Christianity, though. It seems far too political to still be classified as just religion. It's mmore like its own political party or interest group.

But, I still enjoy learning about all the eastern religions. They are very interesting to read about. Their traditions, also, are great to see. I wonder sometimes why people take religion so seriously, and if it's healthy to do so, but if it's not hurting or oppressing anyone I think it's harmless. It almost starts to seem like an art form.

In the same way that people in the medical profession find disease interesting.

It's also a good idea to know how others screwed up, better to learn from mistakes other people made than make the mistakes myself (though just like the Pope I'm not infallible, although unlike him I admit it).

I find the people who believe in religion to be facinating . Especially the ones who seem educated ( earned degrees ) in other fields .
I find the inconsistencies and outright errors interesting . Such things as outlined in books like "The Bad Popes"

I do think it is interesting. I used to love reading about the Greek and Roman and Egyptian mythologies. And I am fascinated with existence and with philosophy...religion is a subset of this interest so I like to know people's opinions. Also I love debate so R&S is the perfect subject for somebody like me : )

The most interesting part to me is the use of religion as a tool for controlling people.
