I would say it is close to being almost even and that is pretty amazing considering what a minority atheists are in this world.

Look, I don't want to bash you but you kind of invite it by asking what compels non-religious people to spend so much time in R & S. It's as if you are implying that this category is only for religious people and that others shouldn't be here. I could ask you the same question, because I have a different viewpoint, and then direct you to the "Mythology and Folklore" category. You asked.

It's rhetorical questioning...all people do it...and it's because the people asking know the answer they believe, and just want to see how other people think, or what their reasoning is behind an answer. It helps to understand the other side when someone answers after truly considering a question. It doesn't change our minds, just enables us to ask better questions the next time around. Sometimes we ask just to see what the majority of people feel about it. Call it statistics and whatnot.

Oh now you are changing the question. Well first of all Christians tried to come in and take over R&S Tried to kick out the Muslems then started messing with Atheist. The Atheist finally got enough of all their nonsense. So R&S is an Atheist page now If you dont like it go find yourself another page. This page belongs to us. Yahoo said we could use it until the Christians or Muslems can take it back. All the other little nonsense religions don't matter.
Good Luck

Reasons...
Religious people constantly posting questions to and about us.
This section is rather entertaining. I'm sure politics is probably just as amusing...though I have little interest in that.
Interest where religion is concerned as the main one pretty much affects all our lives whether we are believers or it or not.
We *do* have opinions and views on beliefs (and lack of) ya know...
Boredom.

The ratio seems to vary depending upon the quality of the question asked.
Interesting question about motivation. I suspect some suspect there is a God and are waiting for conviction.

I think it's psychologically simple for someone to anonymously sit behind a remote machine and play the role of someone they are not in real life. I think that is the lure of Y!A, and the Internet as a whole...
Others are in it for the points...like playing a game...
