My son constantly has horribly chapped lips - they almost look like blisters sometimes and the skin peels off them quite a bit. We do apply lip balm often but if we go a day or two and forget, they get chapped again. I'd like to do something about preventing it in the first place. Could it be from not drinking enough water or milk? He really doesn't drink enough of either, even though his diet is very healthy in every other respect - he eats tonnes of fruit and vegetables and everything else, but we are always after him to drink more. Any thoughts???

It might be not enough water. Milk has nothing to do with it. He may also just have a vicious cycle of licking his lips and then they get chapped, so he feels like he has to lick them more.

Couple of things I would do.
Give him his own really cool water bottle (Sigg makes some) and be sure he drinks it dry a couple times a day. If he isn't used to drinking water, you can make it tasty -but still sugar free -by putting a couple of drops of vanilla, or orange or lemon extract in it. (like you would use for baking)

Find him some rather benign, natural lip balm (no mint, which can sting like a ...bleep...;-) that he can wear around his neck, if he is mature enough to handle it (some 4 y.o.s are, some aren't)

Make sure he is getting enough healthy fat in his diet. Kids NEED fat. Olive oil, avocados, butter, coconut oil, peanut butter, etc...

Be sure to put sunblock on his lips (many lip balms have it in them) anytime he is going to be outside for more than a couple minutes. Lips can get sunburned too.

There must be a sequence off and his sister could be bothering him too yet he desires to comprehend he has to apply his words to particular his anger. be sure which you do tell him getting offended and mad is okay, he only desires to deal with it in yet differently. tell him if he could desire to hit something while he's mad he can hit his pillow yet he's not allowed to hit the rest. additionally, make confident he knows that something he likes to do (I do away with television) would be taken away for the the remainder of the day if he does hit. advantageous reinforcement facilitates too, to illustrate, if he is going the whole day without showing any aggressive habit he gets some M&Ms earlier bedtime. Making him wait each week for his reward won't artwork with a baby this youthful, the reward could desire to experience obtainable to the baby. reliable success and don't supply up attempting to alter his habit that could take it sluggish to incredible yet is correctable in case you reside frim and consistant.

I've seen this with other kids. Not mine but i have a girl in my brownie troop that likes to lick her lips alot and chews on her lips. Not sure why she does it. My guess your son is chapping his own lips by licking them. Try using vasaline.

The other person stole my advice (lol) - Carmex! Also, try and see if he wets his lips or bites his lips a lot. If he does, see if he can try to stop. Good luck!
