ok, some of you are saying the right to bear arms. but that is so out-dated... suppose u summon all the people who are owning gun(s), and make a militia out of it, can they even stand up against any regular army?1700 and 2000 are two different time periods!

yes, guns don't kill people, people do. thats just playing w/ words! without guns, shooters would have tougher time killing others! oh, how many people actually carry a gun on the street?

and don't tell me areas with firearm banned have higher rate of crime. thats not true, if i remembered correct, US has one of the highest rate of firearm related crimes among all the developed and developing nations.

the reason i asked whether handgun should be banned or not is, handguns are easy to hide, u can walk into a school carrying handguns.

cars and guns...

hehe, sounds pretty logical, but one simple thing people don't mention is, cars are not designed to hurt, guns are.

i know there are crazy people on the street, but thats why we pay soo much tax to feed our dear police officers!

Guns DO make it easier for weirdos to do harm. So that is a valid argument for banning guns.

But, if guns are banned, the criminals will find ways to get them illegally and the average citizen will be defenseless.

The founding fathers of this country understood the importance of the people having the means to throw off an abusive government. They had one to start with. A king who taxed the people whenever he felt the urge to do so and forced the people to house and feed his soldiers without paying them one penny. The soldiers became abusive because they didn't fear retribution. Well a good many of them died for their mistreatment of the colonists.

Without guns in the hands of the citizens a government could easily become abusive just as the crown was in 1776!

Many times in history governments have convinced the people that guns were bad for them and soon after all the guns were in the possession of the government, the abuse began. (Think Communism)

A well armed citizenry helps keep the government in check.

I was actually thinking the same thing for the same reason. I live in Australia and me and everyone else I talk to react the same way to news reports about shootings in schools. We stop and think "IN AUSTRALIA? NO WAY?" and then we hear it is in America and then it is more like "Oh, okay then.." I actually think that the difference is that Australia has gun laws, not that we don't have any nutcase kids at school. And because we have school uniforms we can't point out the guy in the long black coat! I wonder where these kids get these guns but I guess having no gun laws means that many families have a gun in their home and the kid just takes it to school with them one day. Also, that doesn't mean that there are not any families with guns at home in Australia that are not meant to. I remember when they changed the gun law and everyone who did not have a gun license had to hand in their gun (which I think they got paid for). Also anyone that didn't have a gun back then will not be able to buy one now without a license. I actually think that no one but police officers should have a gun. People do not need to go animal hunting anyway!!!

Virgina Tech was a gun freezone
Did that stop Cho from bring a gun in and shooting people? No!

All guns are banned England, not even the police have them. Guess what happened when they banned all guns? Gun violence skyrocketed because the only people with guns are the people buying them off the back market, aka criminals

In states that allow the concealed carry of firearms, the murder/rape/ and assult rates are lower.

Switzerland law requires every male age 18-50 to own a gun. There has never been a school shooting.

So one country bans guns and violence goes way up. Another country encourages guns and violence goes way down. You decide.

Absolutely Not! The reason second amendment exists is so the populous of the United States can defend its self and also be able to take control of our own government back if it gets out of hand. The only reason we have any problems with guns is lack of guidance by parents of children being raised in the United States. I was given my first rifle at 5 years of age. I was the fifth generation in my family to have this done. My son is the 6th. I was raised with firearms and no one in my family has ever had a problem. This is based on discipline and being taught what is right and wrong. The first thing the Nazi's & Communists and any other Whacko's do is get control of all the guns. Is this what you want? Guns provide your FREEDOM!

Firearms should not be banned for three reason- economic constitution, general. With regards to economic, you can make it illegal, and the price of illegal guns will rise significantly. This has potential consequences of its own. One might say that high prices will discourage people from buying guns. Looking at high price of marijuana, people still continue to sell because there is a black market what makes you think that guns will stop. Sure you can put more people in jail, but the money to house inmates comes from tax payers, and putting a high burden of taxes on people can slow the economy down.

With regards to constitution, it is a second amendment right. I know there are many arguements against it, but reality is that the supreme court is tilted to the right.

In general, i think people tend to shoot innocent people where they know that a mass quantity of people dont have guns, i.e schools and work.

It is the people who use the guns that kil. You can outlaw guns, but people can also use a motor vehcile to kill so many innocent people, are you willing to ban that as well?

I could go through the houshold cleaners i now have in my house and do more harm than I ever could with a firearm. Should we ban those too?

If you ban weapons you know who will keep them people who will do wrong things with them.

If they wont obey a law with the serious penalties that murder carries what makes you think they will say "oh guns are illegal I better not have one"

Why punish law abiding people for the actions of others.

People drink and drive and kill more people than are killed by guns each year. Should we ban cars becuase some people cant behave

Your stats are way off. Yes there is lots of crime in america with guns but in areas that have conceled weapons permits has the lowest crime rates. DC has some of the toughest gun laws in the nation yetthey are on the top of thel ist for crime each year.

For the person who said unless you are a gang member you shouldnt have to worry. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. do you know how many home invasions there are in regular peoples home each year. If you want to know how many are stopped by by law abidding citizens who are armed just read the NRA's magazine that comes out each month the front of it is filled with stories each month of people doing just that.

My answer isn't any firearms should not be banned interior the united statesor the different u . s . for that rely. area of the reason we've freedom is the theory that shall we stand and guard what we already have. do away with our weapons and then the only individuals that could have them are the police and the criminals, which might at as quickly as replace into a similar human beings, whilst they understood that they had no longer something to worry from the common guy. worry is the only element that the ordinary public of the planet knows, so which you cant do away with someone's skill to instill worry in yet another. whether that worry is largely a doubt, that normally is sufficient. whether it extremely is all completely unlucky that the international must be the way it particularly is. None of this might carry, it has to furnish way.

This is a controversial question. I believe that yes, they should be outlawed. I believe that when our forefathers wrote in the constitution that we had the right to bear arms, they meant the right to form militia's......not the right for us all to keep loaded weapons in our home.

People always say, "I need to keep a gun in my home for protection." Unless you are a gang member , I just don't buy this argument. How many of the people killed by firearms last year were shot because they were breaking into somebody's home? Not many. Most of the people that died were girlfriends shot by their psycho ex-husbands, or innocent children that found the gun in daddy's closet, or children going to school and getting shot by the class schitzo. I can think of twenty different scenarios where innocent people get shot and killed everyday by firearms.
I can't think of the last time I heard about somebody getting shot by a civilian because they were trying to break into their home. I am not saying that it doesn't happen, but FAR more lives would be saved if firearms were banned. Of course, it would take years to get all the guns off the streets. You would have to have extremely harsh sentencing laws for violators. But I, for one, would gladly have my taxes raised to keep these people in prison.

NO - I have guns to protect myself, and I would not turn them in even if they were banned - that means I would become a criminal, where before the ban, I was a law abiding citizen. Banning the guns created MORE criminals, not LESS!!

What needs to be done, is making the BULLETS extremely hard to get and very expensive - put controls like they now have on Sudafed. ALL bullets are rationed, behind lock and key, signed for, and you are filmed buying them. ALL bullet making materials need to be illegal for home use.

There will ALWAYS be crazy idiots out there that do crazy idiot things - if they could not access a gun, they would use something else.

I wish that it were easier and faster to get someone HELP that you knew was getting crazy ideas. It is almost impossible to get dangerous people off the streets - they have to DO something crazy before anyone will act on it - that is just stupid!! IMAGINE... if all the people who have flipped out and went on killing sprees were reported and GOT MENTAL HELP BEFORE they flipped out, they most likely would NOT have gone over the edge.

Society is NOT doing a very good job of insuring our individual safety - that is WHY people like me have guns - to protect myself because no one else really can!!

I would like to say that the best thing would be if teachers were allowed to carry guns in school, but that probably wouldn't have deterred this disturbed individual.

No matter how any of us feel about it, one way or the other, it is impossible to ban firearms in this country. The cat is already out of the bag and cannot be put back. If you pass a law requiring all citizens to surrender their arms, who do you think will do it? All the law-abiding citizens. Leaving only the criminals armed. The only real solution would be to prohibit manufacture and import of ammunition. Although it is possible to make your own bullets, it would at least slow things down. And I am only suggesting this for handgun ammunition, not rifles, etc.
