does anyone know any good volunteer websites?
i want to volunteer on the east coast, perferably around NY - NJ area. But I need volunteer jobs that either provide housing or help with housing and provide some type of salary. I will be living onm my own there and I need help in housing. I just want to volunteer from around Dec or Jan til like April - May - June.

Yes, they are great for the community, but Americorps and Americorps Vista don't provide or even assist with housing and they ask for a year long commitment. Also, they purposely pay whatever is considered to be poverty level wages for the area in which you are assigned (so you can know what it feels like, or get the full experience or something like that). I had to supervise "volunteers" from both groups at my last job. Many of them felt it was a great experience, and lots of people come back for a second term. They give you a decent amount of money for school at the end, usually enough for at least one term at a moderatly priced public school.
