Furosemide (Lasix) is a loop diuretic, not a thiazide, but both deplete potassium, and hypertensives should be cognizant of the need for potassium and magnesium.

Lasix is the brand name for furosemide whic is a loop diuretic. Thiazides are also diuretics but act differently from lasix. In either case, a common side effect is hypokalemia or low serum potassium. You may have to take potassium supplements or potassium rich foods like bananas to compensate.
