denon but high end onkyo rocks too (old school onkyo)

I'm what you might call old school too. I still have my 1979 Luxman reciever and would'nt ( obviously ) trade it for anything, exept maybe a McIntosh.
I have to agree though. Denon. Top of the line Onkyo is up there in my ranking too. You will get other suggestions but you won't go wrong with either.
