I have a Nikomat FTn, and I need a suggestion on what type of film I should use.

Okay, let me elaborate from my previous explanation.

Yes, it's a classic (I love it), and I want that distorted film texture without going to desperate measures. I don't believe in Photoshop and all my photos are 'you get what you see.'

Any suggestions?

A lot depends on what you are shooting and if you process your own black and white film.

Personally, I like the new Kodak Portra. ISO 160 NC (Natural Color) or 400NC and 160VC (Vivid Color) or 400VC. The skin tones on the NC versions are really good. I also shoot some Fujifilm PRO 400H (this is a hard to find film). I like Ilford XP2 Super 400 for C-41 processing black & white.

Does anyone else think it's hilarious that Yahoo! has picked up on the "FTn" in this question and linked an advertisement for First Tennessee National (FTN) Corp.? It's like a spell checker that can't tell the difference between "write," "rite," and "right."

My preference is Fuji, for great flesh tones. It doesn't have so much green tint in it as other films.

best is always matter of opinion, like cars whats the best for me its lamboghini for others its mini.

if you want to shoot transparency then theres velvia etc

if you want to shoot black n white theres t-max et cetera

the "best" film will depend on what you shot, kodak for strong yellow/golds....fuji for strong greens, how much/little grain you want etc

buy a few and see what YOU like best
