It's not. The church just wants its members to produce more babies so they can keep their attendance numbers from dwindling. It's not working - Christianity is on the decline worldwide.
Besides, anyone that obsessed with what people are doing with their own genitals in the privacy of their home, with or without other consenting adults, is a PERVERT!

Its a matter of what ejaculate represents. "Seed" in the bible, or sperm, is looked upon as a sacred thing. It is referred to quite often as a means of furthuring a man's lineage. As far as the bible saying that masturbation is a sin directly, it does not. It only eludes to that notion in an old Testament story in which one man has sex with a woman who was not his wife, and during sex "pulls out." And when he pulled out, he ejaculated on the ground and God cursed him for "spilling his seed." But as far as I know, there is not a direct warning against masturbation anywhere. Scholars only have concluded that since spilling seed was a cursed thing in that instance, it is a cursed thing anytime it happens. I have a bachelor's degree in Christian Theology.

It is NOT explicitly written that it is wrong. Christians believe that anything with appearances of a sin is actually a sin. Since masturbation leads to thoughts of sex, and sex is wrong in the eyes of God before marriage, then masturbation is wrong. By the way, these are not my own personal beliefs, but I was raised in the church until I was 22 years old, and I KNOW this is what they believe.

From what I gather(from the Bible) sex is supposed to be something sacred and saved for marriage and your partner.
But honestly, most people nowadays do not wait for marriage, and I think masturbation is the lesser of the two sins.

It's not really masturbation, but the reason why people masturbate is because they are horny, obviously. So hornyness, or lust, is one of the 7 deadly (capital) sins of the catholic religion. Lust is the desire and pleasure of the body, so masturbation would fall under that, making it a sin.

Not specifically mentioned in the Bible... probably they still do not have the proper term for that.... but seriously, it is not a SIN at all... the Bible speak about LUST and the "waste of seed".... so it is not really a sin with reference to the Bible... but HELLO!!! How can you masturbate if you do not LUST for someone else???

Because it opens you to impure thoughts & makes you sexually active before you are ready.
I know it is impossible not to do it once in a while, but we are to try to keep our minds on pure things, not to become obsessed with sex, even if it is masterbating.
The way sex is shown today in every corner of the earth,it is almost impossible for kids not to be able to control their urges, which is why they are just going ahead & having sex..

Stick with the 10 commandments, they're pretty cool. If your pulling it enough to get sore- you have a problem and need to stop, otherwise its completely healthy and the safest thing you can do sexually. Pornography is dangerous if you start thinking of women as only objects of lust and gratification.

Like MOST Religions...-the Bible wants its Followers to "be fruitfull & multiply (& thus make MORE Followers to spead its word). It DOESN'T want people to masturbate- because THAT might take the "place" of people making babies! So it's NOT really "wrong"- at all...-It's just not serving the cause that the Bible promotes... :)
