I’m always seeing commercials on TV telling young people to wait to have sex. It’s always kind of funny to me because it assumes that everyone has the ability to have sex. But when I was in high school, I looked like a super-young little boy and I couldn’t have gotten laid if I had tried. I had no choice but to wait.
So my question is: How many people actually feel like waiting to have sex is something they had a choice of whether or not to do? In other words, could you have gotten sex if you wanted to?
Please include whether you’re male or female in the answer.

Let me clearify because I’m getting a lot of answers that are misinterpreting the question:
If you didn’t have sex as a teenager, was it because you chose to wait even though you could have easily gotten laid, OR was it because you couldn’t have gotten any?

Yes I could have had sex from junior high on. There were guys, some attractive, some not, who showed their interest in me. I was insecure and felt I needed to have sex to be loved. I regret not waiting for my fabulous husband, who came many years (and many creapy boyfriends) later.

I'm 28 and have never had sex. I don't think that my gender is all that important in this case.
I've never been in a situation where I had to refuse sex.
I'd hope that if it had been an option, or becomes one, I would/will have the wisdom to make the right choice.
At this point, I have no issue with still being a virgin, although at times I've had some serious self doubt.
I'm pretty sure that there's nothing wrong with staying a virgin indefinitely, there's plenty of successful people who've spent a good chunk of their life celibate.
I know that I'm one.

No. I didn't have a choice in waiting to have sex in high school. I didn't have that choice until I was in college. In high school I was a loner. I walked funny(still do), and was pretty much an introvert(still am). I didn't look all that pretty either, cute at best. So me not looking pretty or hot, combined with my lack of social skills, pretty much ensured I wouldn't get laid. Plus, I had to like the guy to even consider going out with him, and well, I only liked a couple of guys in high school, and they all wanted tall, skinny, blonde types, not chubby, short, weird, girls.

So because of this fact, I thought waiting was SO easy, and I wondered y people couldn't do it. But in college I was proven wrong, and was actually proud of myself for sticking to my guns in the face of temptation.

I'm a female.

I'm a woman. I was a virgin until I was 18. I waited that long because I was still living in my Father's house. When I was working & pay ing my own way, I gave my virginity to a man who was worth it. I could have gotten laid a lot sooner, but waited. It was worth the wait. I have never been pregnant, or had a disease. Good Luck & Blessings

What's missing is the DESIRE to have sex. People have the ABILITY to have sex after puberty, but that doesn't mean they are immediately going to engage in sex. People should choose to have sex with someone not just for the sake of having sex; there are prostitutes abounding who can provide that-at a cost.

I am female and yes I could have. Everyone has a choice, you only have sex when you feel like you are ready, both physically and mentally.

im a guy. sex is always (except when you are forced into it) a matter of choice but before you could choose whether to have it or not, you first must be presented with an opportunity to do it.

Female:

Yes. I have had chances where I wanted it, and some where didn't want it. But I have desided to wait. and I am going to stick with that.
It's just not worth it. You have sex to reproduce. If your not ready for a kid, Your not ready for sex. Thats my opinion.
