To answer this question one must look at the ingredients in most sodas, the regular soda not diet. For example, Coca Cola has carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, phosphoric acid and caffeine.
carbonated water-is dissolved carbon dioxide which if consumed in large amounts may cause low bone density and other things.high fructose corn syrup-is a form of sugar therefore if consumed in large amounts and not excercising can increase your calories.phosporic acid-is used for rust removal and can cause low bone density.Caffeine-can cause nervousness, irritability, anxiety, tremulousness, muscle twitching (hyperreflexia), insomnia, headaches, respiratory alkalosis and heart palpitations.Furthermore, caffeine can effect the gastrointestinal tract; things like ulcers, esophagitis and acid reflux.
Diet sodas contain aspartame, an artificial sweetner, in which scientists believe cause serious illnesses.
If you do drink soda all the time drink water afterwards and gradually drink less soda everyday then switch to drinking water you will see a big difference.Temporary headaches are normal once you stop drinking diet or sodas with caffeine

What I think is the issue as far as the headaches is that you are drinking soda with caffiene and when you stop you are putting your body into withdrawl from the caffiene. Ever been around one of those people that aren't human til their first cup of coffee in the morning? Same situation. Have you ever seen what cola can do to a car's paint job? Cola is like watered down pain remover. Major damage to your stomach. Lessen the amounts of soda that you drink gradually. If you like the carbonation then try different flavors of seltzer or carbonated water.

It eats away at the lining of your stomach just like it eats away at your teeth. Have you been to the dentist lately. Diet free is full of chemicals that are reported to do all sorts of bad things, and regular soda will keep you on a sugar high. Take Care. Try room temperature water with lemon.

You are probably experiencing withdrawal from caffeine. Slowly wean yourself off the soda by drinking a little less of it each day as opposed to going cold turkey.

Eating lots of fresh fruit will help with the sugar cravings, and drink plenty of water.

Consuming all that sugar can lead to Type II diabetes, the caffeine can lead to hypertension and anxiety, and also I understand that the diuretic effect of the caffeine can lead to decreased bone density due to the fact that you're basically peeing out essential minerals like calcium and phosphorus instead of absorbing them through your kidneys again.

Well if you are drinking soda with caffeine in it the caffeine can be doing a number on you. Some people develop allergies to it, so headaches could be common with that. Also the sugar if it isn't diet could mess with your stomach and teeth.

It is well known (but not widely publicized) that placing a human tooth in a bottle of (Coke, Pepsi, etc, pick your poison) will COMPLETELY DISSOLVE the tooth overnight. Now if the chemicals in soda can do that, imagine what they are doing to your insides, especially when you drink a lot of soda.
