Hi,
My mom is a US citizen and my priority date is Jan 14, 2002...i checked the uscis.gov website and the current date (for 1st category) for november is: December 8, 2001.

My question is:
After I file the I485, do the fingerprinting and submit all my medical stuff, how long would i expect to get my tangible greencard?

more info:
I am 28, not married, currently living in the US for 18 years, am working with an H1B visa that will expire in 2010. Any input will be appreciated... Thank you!

You are lucky that you have an H1b visa. It is the only visa that allows dual intent, meaning, even though your H1b visa is a temporary visa, you can lawfully apply for permanent residency. You are also allowed to go in and out of the country while on that visa without applying for a parole.

Once your petition becomes current and you file Form I-485, it will take about 2 to 3 months before you go through fingerprinting and medical examination. After that it will just be a few months before you get your green card. Average is 8 months. So sit tight ... time flies by when your petition becomes current.

First, your mother needs to file Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative on behalf of you. Upon the approval of the petition, you will be given the priority date. Since you are over 18 years old, you have to wait until the PD becomes current to file Form I-485, Adjustment of Status. As of November, whoever has the PD before Dec. 8, 2001 can apply for the green card (I-485). That's about minimum of 6 years of wait for you if you have PD as of today and if the visa availability flows steady. After that, about 4-6 months wait of interview.
Just be patient. Or like some of lawyers I have consulted told me, "It is much easier if you marry to US Citizen. You can get conditional Green card in 3 months and the real green card in about 2 years."
