I am pregnant with my second child and my son (age 5) is asking how babies are made. How do I explain it?

Whatever you do, DO NOT tell him the stork theory. He's not dumb and he can see that your belly is getting bigger. Telling him that his new sibling will be coming by a bird is basically insulting his intelligence.

Go to the video store (or online) and see if you can find a video called "Where Did I Come From". Or a similar title. I used that video with my son when he was about 5 years old. I played the video and answered any questions he had. If you don't find the video, there are books out there as well.

Well, you dont really. What I would do is just let them know that when two people really love eachother, they get married and share this love like no other. They have so much love for eachother that they end up multiplying and that is how they came to be. My 8 year old came to me once, when she was about 4 or 5, and asked me where babies came from and I told her that and she accepted it. I had two babies since then and she tells them, mommy loves daddy alot b/c she has three of us now. It getting the idea thru w/out it being real thorough.

Just watch some nature shows together. 90% of them show mating. When they do, just tell him they're making a baby.

He/she'll ask if that's the way you made yours.

Just say, more or less, but people hug and are in love.

That'll be more than enough info for a 5 year old.

Otherwise, just tell him the stork will deliver his new brother or sister...

You don't tell him about the birds and the bees, but you don't lie either.

Just tell him that when two adults have to make the decision to have a baby. The two adults have cells that mix in the belly and the baby starts growing there.

He doesn't need to know HOW the cells got there, and probably won't ask.

You need to be lead by the Holy Spirit and tell him the truth that he can understand. He'll grow up soon enough. One day he'll will know It all anyway. But right now Isn't the time to tell him everything. It's like letting him drive a car,he 'll drive one day. But right now that's beyond his ability to understand all that goes along with the rules of the road. Same thing with the birds & the bees.

You can be honest and tell him but use childlike terms. I have 6 kids and when my oldest asked me that I told him mommy and dad fit together. He didnt ask for more details. If he does then tell him thats why girls have vaginas and boys have penises.

I would be honest and tell him the facts. I think the earlier you talk about it the better. Then when they are older it is not an issue.
