I have worked at a convenience store for about 4 years where I'm sure I was exposed to secondhand smoking (people were rude enough to blow their nasty smoke right in my face, and mind you, i was about 9 years old when i started!).

After that, I was not exposed anymore to secondhand smoking. However, once in a while i would go someplace where there were smoke and after that the smell would not go away for days. when I am breathing normally, i can smell it, but when i take a big breath to see if there are any cigarette smoke, I don't smell it.

This does not only happen with cigarette smoke, either. I currently have this condition which started a couple days earlier when I was lighting inscents.

Can some one please explain what is going on?

It is clear that you are extremely sensitive to the particulates in cigarette smoke, same as me, and you can smell that someone has been smoking even after they stop or have not smoked for a while. What I do is avoid such people whenever possible, because exposure, even when they are not smoking, makes me feel ill.

It's very tough to answer to a smell that only 1 person can detect, unless they claim to be a "sensitive", which doesn't sound like the case here. As we've mentioned before, if a spirit manifests itself through scent it's usually a smell connected to that spirit and is usually detected by anyone nearby (again, unless communicating through a medium). As your mom doesn't claim to be a medium, why she as opposed to everyone else is able to detect a scent is a little problematic. However, it doesn't prevent you from trying a couple things to get rid of the entity. A couple things you can try...

1) Actually expressing your concern to the entity. There are some serious paranormal investigators who believe if you actually speak out loud to the entity when it seems to have manifested. The idea is that, assuming the entity is just trying to get someone's attention and if they know they are causing alarm, they will back off.

2) If that attempt is unsuccessful, or if you are uncomfortable trying that, you might try to bring a medium into the home. The idea is that a medium will try to see why a spirit hasn't passed and try to help them do so. Be selective in the process as there are charlatans out there trying to make a buck. They should NOT charge anything and should be willing to explain all aspects of their service.

A final note; it doesn't seem as if the spirit (if there is one), is acting maliciously. Even if it IS a malicious spirit, there is no well-documented evidence the ghost has ever harmed anyone directly.

I think everything is from your mind. I think you believe you can smell cigarette smoke after you come from any place where there were smoke. You have became very sensitive person on the smoke now and I strongly recommend to see a doctor. It is very important to see a doctor when you have first/early symptoms. Take a good care of you...

There is something you can do ... it's called the fabric softener filter 1. Find a toilet paper tube or a paper-towel tube 2. Stuff the tube with fabric softener 3. IMPORTANT - wash your hands - fabric softener has chemicals on it - don't touch yourself 4. Make sure the fabric softener can't touch your lips! 5. Now when you smoke blow the smoke through the tube 6. People will say "What is this - air freshener?"

What you smell is your own clothes! The smell (especially smoke) attaches to your clothes!
