I've read Gloria Steinem and Simone de Beauvoir and a few other feminist titles and I think that it's a good thing for women to have expanded civil rights, salaries, and job opportunities. I know I like my work.
I find the hairy pits and legs thing kinda skanky and was curious to note that some women who've "let go" seem to attract guys but if I "let myself go" I get all sorts of looks and it's harder to get a date. And it freaked out my boyfriend who wasn't too advanced, but I kind of miss him, and it's more of a chore to find a guy who's nice then it is to shave once or twice a week.
Am I a victime of opppressive capitalist gender stereotypes? Or should I just revel in being "femme"?
Confused.

Ms. Sophi hasn't spent a lot of time in a natural foods coop if she hasn't seen women who've "let go." I've been having an affair with my college prof (a guy) and another woman and it's very complex. She likes "naturel" and he likes "traditional U.S." I like all the sex. Anyhow I have this petite 20s thing going for me so I guess I'll shave. Also my boyfriend took me to Hawaii and Paris so I guess that counts for something. My girlfriend is all politics and food coops. I'm a woman but I haven't gotten around to changing my Yahoo picture. Sorry about that.

I should think that hairy arm pits and legs would be skanky on anyone especially if she's a woman. Just think of how gross that looks under a pair of pantyhose. Ewwwww. then if your wearing a sleevless strapless gown another ewwww comes to mind.

Skanky? If women want to quit shaving their legs and under their arms, that's their business. You are the victim of a gender stereotype, that women would need to have smooth, hairless legs and have no underarm hair in order to achieve your standard (a standard that you learned no doubt from how women are portrayed in the media) of beauty. 100 years ago, few women shaved their legs or under their arms and 150 years ago, a woman would have laughed at you if you suggested she do so. So, it's actually a relatively modern contrivance.

You should do what you are comfortable with. By the way, you could have just felt like people were looking at you because you were feeling self-conscious about it.
Men are usually attracted to women who are comfortable with themselves in the world...and not shaving pits and legs because society says women are supposed to is a sure sign of a woman whos secure with herself.

Are hairy pits and legs on non-feminists skanky, or on men?
Who cares? In many countries, it's a non-issue. The USA can be so Puritan about the silliest things...

guys are all different. I am born American male. Most guys do NOT like hairy underarms, or legs. Some guys like the "other" area hairy but I would say most like it shaved. Once you shave down stairs it is best to keep it that way. Stubble can bother you when it is growing back.

LMAO. You can be sure that this is a man talking. And he also suffers an identity crisis. So, you might think about seeing your psychiatrist, who might be able to help you over lengthy period of time... BTW, I have never met an American woman with hairy legs and armpits: they were either French or German ladies. They also did not look like any type of victims to me.

I find hairy legs and pits skanky. BUT, I find them skanky on men too. Do men honestly believe that hairy legs and pits are gross on us, but not on them? Hypocrisy.
I don't know what to tell you about your issues with body hair. One thing I will say, though, is that the U.S. is really "behind" in terms of sentiments towards body hair. In many parts of Europe, women can go without shaving and the men there don't care. While I still find body hair to be kinda nasty, I wouldn't mind it so much on a guy in Europe because he wouldn't expect me to shave either. It would be kinda gross, but since we'd both be gross, it would be fair.

My personal preference happens to be smooth legs, smooth pits. Even as a guy, I hold a strong dislike for body hair.
I regularly shave my leg and armpit hair. It's just gross otherwise.

Since we live in the third-wave of feminism, we're allowed to be sexy and powerful at the same time. We don't have to sacrifice our femininity to be successful like the second-wave feminists did. So, if you feel better and more confident and appear sexier with shaved parts, more power to you. But I agree with Rebel F that hair on men is just as gross as hair on women.

No, not skanky, just gross.
Skanky is women who have their g-string popping out over their low cut jeans and the jeans sit so low you can see that they've had brazilians.(skank has different meaning in Aus)
Ugghh, hate body hair, didn't shave my legs for 4 days to let it grow long enough to wax, but couldn't stand it anymore and had to shave.
