I would guess that you feel that you pressured him into the engagement. If it's bothering you, sit down with him, give him the ring back, and tell him to give it back to you when he's really ready to get married - no anger or pouting. If he says, no, I want you to keep it, then do not let him get away with comments like that any more, because he chose. If he takes the ring, consider how long you're willing to wait for him to be ready. In the meantime, don't bring it up.

Dahlink...Read his lips. He ain't ready. Give him some space, don't reject his rejection of the idea of being engaged to you, and just lighten up. I really resent when someone tries to pressure me into a situation I haven't thought through. I just tell them I'm not ready to combine our energy into an exclusive relationship. If that's unacceptable to the guy, Oh well.

Really if thats how the conversation went, you might wanna step back. Take your time and really be honest and ask him to be really with you and dont take it personal if you dont get the answer you want, cuz it may not be the right time.
Ask him wedding questiosn, like location and best man and see how he reacts.

good luck

IF that's how he reacted, he probably wouldn't want to be engaged. That's how I would react.

Don't bring it up early in your relationship and not too late either.

If you have to initiate the marriage conversation, then it's never gonna work out.
