I appreciate the hard work of law enforcement and recognize their sacrifices. This section seems to have a lot of people who jump on those who complain about law enforcement. I know from personal experience that law enforcement agents are capable of making mistakes and even outright abusing their authority. Where this conduct really irks me its that it is counter productive to the purpose of having law enforcement. Unprofessional and or abusive law enforcement agents not only threatens the safety of the citizens in their respective jurisdictions but it also endanger law enforcement by building mistrust and resentment. No good will come of this.

So for those who believe that people who complain about law enforcement are just whiners and even criminals I have to ask what you make of this story below?

The rocks and bottle throwers are definitely a reason to take action and the police in this case reacted recklessly. They did take responsibility for their mistakes and I commend them for this. My point is the reckless behavior in this incident could not have helped in keeping peace nor will help the citizens trust law enforcement.

We make mistakes, and when we do we admit it. This is what LAPD has done in your story. Taking responsibilty for their own actions is something that you seldom find the folks who hate cops doing.

Some people will hate law enforcement no matter what we do. These folks hate us, some try to kill us or attack our families because of the uniform we wear, and the fact that we have sworn an oath to protect our communities.

Most people I know who complain about the police are criminals, or those who support them. They have grown up in an environment where they never had to take accept responsibilty for their actions, and hate us 'cos we force them to.

The story you cite, does nothing to change my opinion on the criminals "throwing rocks and bottles at the police" during the riot. I've yet to come across a news story in which criminal elements have admitted their violent actions on that day.

THE STORY TELLS IT ALL-TRAINING, INEXPERIENCE, FAILURE OF THE SUPERVISORS TO MAKE A CLEAR AND CONCISE DECISIONS AS THEY ARE PAID TO DO.

THE CHIEF OF OPERATIONS?? WAS FIRED AND HIS ASSISTANT WAS DEMOTED.

YOU ARE ONLY AS GOOD AS YOUR EXPERIENCES IN THE FIELD. LA IS NOT A HAVEN TO WORK IN. CROWDS IN THE THOUSANDS CAN GET UNRULY AND CAUSE HAVOC (RACE RIOTS IN WATTS).

WITHOUT PROPER SUPERVISION THE OFFICERS RETALIATED AT THE ROCK THROWERS AND MAYHEM BROKE OUT?

REMEMBER--PRIOR PLANNING PREVENTS PISS POOR PERFORMANCE.
