I was watching a show on the catholic network, EWTN, and a preist was talking about that, he said he told a gay man once that they were alike, that they both needed to be celibate to please God. He didn't tell him he was a sinner, he just told him what it takes to please God. I thought that was pretty cool.
I don't think it's a sin to be gay, and I do believe (some) are born that way. The bible and the Qur'an both say God doesn't want anyone to act on those feelings. I think Gays are born with a much harder task in life than straights who can satisfy the flesh without displeasing God. Maybe he loves them more and wants to really test them hard?

Homosexuality is a sin because Almighty God and Jesus Christ SAY it is.
It IS a forgivable sin in God's eyes. It is a sexual sin that can be stopped, changed, and corrected.
Unbiased medical professionals state that homosexuality (i.e., transgender, bi-sexual, lesbian, and gay males) is a sexual preference not a product of defective DNA.
No one is born a homosexual. Homosexuals are created through environment, lifestyle, and/or personal histories. Of all the homosexuals that I know, care for, and pray for, all suffered mental and/or physical trauma and/or abuse and/or neglect from family in their childhood or through a relationship or rejection that shattered their personal worth and self-esteem during their young adulthoods.
The New Testament too speaks of the sin of homosexuality. It is referred to as sodomy and those males and females that practice unnatural sexual preferences are called sodomites.
Read these New Testament scriptures concerning homosexuality:
Matthew 11:24
Luke 10:12
Romans 1:24 & 26 & 27
1 Corinthians 6:9
1 Timothy 1:9-10
These are the Old Testament scriptures concerning homosexuality:
Genesis 19:5-8
Exodus 22:19
Leviticus 18:22 & 23
Leviticus 20:13 & 15 & 16
Deuteronomy 23:17
Deuteronomy 27:21
Judges 19:22
1Kings 14:24
1 Kings 15:12
1 Kings 22:46
2 Kings 23:7

I find the use of the "clobber" passages in scripture hilarious and pitiful at the same time -- even if you believe that the Bible is literally true (which as a mainstream Christian I certainly do not) -- how can you take a small set of passages far out of context, and use them to attack others? It makes no sense. Christ is love -- and the Church is centered in the Eucharist and the Creed, not in a collection of books selected by the bishops at the Council of Carthage in 397 AD -- hundreds of years after Christ established his Church on earth.
If, ultimately, you are going to use the Bible to condemn homosexuality, then you must use it to condemn other things -- like eating shellfish, wearing clothing of mixed fabric, planting gardens of mixed plants, supporting the idea of a round earth -- and so forth. If any of it is literally true, then all of it is -- in which case, I want to see the pillars that the earth sits on according to the Bible Oh, and the four legged grasshoppers and the pool that holds water but uses a pi of 3 rather than 3.14~ and ... oh, I could go on and on.
And yet, Christ was, according to that same book, very clear about what faith in Him was all about -- and many of you do not listen, its too simple, and more frighteningly, it doesn't direct every action you take, it shows an expectation that you will think.
"Love the Lord they God with all thy heart with all they mind and with all thy soul -- and love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two things rest ALL the law and the prophets."
It couldn't get any clearer, but you would rather have bile and hatred and sadness -- I pity all of you who are fundamentalists, more than you could imagine.
Kind thoughts,
Reyn

PS To Hamoh (just below me) -- "don't alter the word?" Excuse me - the "word" has been altered again and again -- when you make statements like that all you prove is that you've never actually studied the history of the Church or the history of the Bible -- I note that you do nothing to show how a pool with a pi of 3.0 can hold water, or where the pillars that the earth supposedly sits on are. That's because you know those things are not and cannot be real -- yet the Bible, which you take as literal says both are real. Faith in Christ is faith in Christ. Making the Bible into an infallible book -- frankly -- is idolatry.

OK, well just because it is under Leviticus law it doesn't take away the truth that can be found in the principle of that law. Also Romans 2 has something to say regarding "unnatural" relations.
Secondly, you said "every gay person you meet knows they were born that way." Do you know there are lesbians and gays who actually say that it was a choice?
I believe it is a sin because it is obvious based on our biological makeup that we were not made for such activity. First it is impossible to procreate in a strictly homosexual relationship. Second, when you consider a male and female, well the pieces just fit together.

Concepts and the development of terms to express them, rarely start together. So don't get hung up with the term not being specifically used in the Bible.
As far as being born that way, well maybe not. It may true that one is actually born with a homosexual preference. Most people are born with heterosexual preference. In either case, that in and of itself doesn't force the individual to be sexually active outside of marriage. It's a choice the individual makes, whether it's lusting after their own sex or the opposite. There have been many individuals who have been able to leave the homosexual lifestyle or the life of the womanizer and even lived a healthy happy life afterwards.

Of course it's a sin. Prove to me the Bible says otherwise.
Why do you think God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah? Please don't say "pride!"
Jesus says what a marriage is suppose to be. A husband (man) and a wife (woman) just like God created them. BTW-Jesus is God, so He was there when they were created, too. Read John 1:1-5
Ok, let's just say someone does believe they were "born" gay (which I don't believe, but I will humor you for a moment). Even IF one was "born" gay, Jesus said "Unless one is BORN AGAIN, they will not enter the kingdom of heaven."
So, knowing that, that EVERYONE must be born again, because ALL HAVE SINNED, and fall short of the glory of God, then we must say that all homosexuals must be born again, also (just like every other sinner in this world-which includes each and everyone of us) and when one is Born Again, they REPENT of all sin in their lives, ACCEPT Jesus as their Savior, and Live their life according to HIS WILL, NOT THEIR OWN. Jesus will give them A NEW HEART, and they will become a NEW CREATURE, and will not DESIRE the sinful ways of the flesh any longer. HENCE, THERE IS A WAY OUT OF THEIR SIN. They can either accept that, or reject that. IT'S A CHOICE EVERYONE MUST MAKE, not just homosexuals! We all have some sort of sin we struggle with in our lives. We must repent of it, and that means to turn away from it, not just confess it.
You must accept the Bible as the whole truth, and the whole word of God, and not just pick and choose what you like about it and don't like about it. It is God's word, and it is as solid as a Rock!!!!

I don't use Levitical law. I use the new testament to support the fact that it is a sin. Also you say they are born that way as if that were an excuse. I am a man. I was born liking women. That does not mean I go around sleeping with them before marriage. Little children lie from the time they can speak. They are basically born liars. That does not make it right. Saying they are born that way is the single worst argument for supporting homosexuality.
1 Corinthians 6:9 Do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor abusers, nor homosexuals,
1Co 6:10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
Romans 1:26 For this cause, God gave them up to dishonorable affections. For even their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature.
Rom 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another; males with males working out shamefulness, and receiving in themselves the recompense which was fitting for their error.

Look,,, I mean NO malice, but you fail to really reason with truth.,, WE were ALL born in sin because of ADAM! So we choose the sins we commit or reject as we live our lives. So,, TO YOU,,,If two MEN have sex, and a child is conceived is it possible? Let alone NATURAL??? The same for two WOMEN! See, don't mess with the scriptures for BY them God condemns that sin along with ALL the rest. Also the LIE that you're born that Way dosen't wash either. It is still YOUR choice! Consider a gay person REFUSING to indulge. thus NOT sinning in that manner. Is he NOT justified? In that case? Gays are not a 'special' people, Not for God to pass over them in judgement, either,,, Now you asked,,,Not only is it sin,,,God says it IS an abomination! That;s His judgeent,,,not mine. See how you used 1Cor 6: 11?, youre not aware that the meaning STILL remains the SAME? Please don't try and alter the Word Also SODOM,,desteoyed in Abraham's day,,,,long before THE LAW,,,,so please just think on these things It's not too late yet..........

I love the xians justification, " because the bible says so" LMFAO WOW!
Conservative and liberal Christians interpret the Bible in very different ways. This leads to two distinct and contradictory sets of beliefs within Christianity on just about every conceivable topic, from abortion to sex. Belief in equal rights for homosexuals and bisexuals is no exception.
Since the two groups approach the Bible with different assumptions about its nature, and look for different content, one can expect that their conclusions will be very different.
How does the Bible address homosexuality - the word didn't even exist until 1869? The word first appeared in Germany to describe the theory that from birth some people are predisposed toward persons of the same sex. Since the biblical languages (Hebrew and Greek) had no words for heterosexual or homosexual, it is anachronistic and misleading when homosexual is used to translate a biblical text. It is wrong to proclaim the biblical view of homosexuality since there is none. This violates the integrity of the individual texts and the biblical witness as a whole. Each reference to what is today homosexuality must be read in the light of the particular literary, cultural, and historic contexts of any particular passage.
There is little said in the bible about homosexuality because it was no big deal! It occupied a prominent and respected position in most Greek and Roman cities at all levels of society and among a substantial part of the population. There are only 4 scriptures that are taken to say anything about homosexuality; the Leviticus laws, I Cor 6:9, Romans 1:26-27, and the story of Sodom and Gomorrah - and none address loving, consenting homosexual acts as we know them today.
There are over 600 individual "laws" in the Levitical code, the breaking of anyone of which would make the sinner unclean and unacceptable to God. It is an abomination to eat pork, etc. The law is no longer in effect and its purpose was to show that man could never follow it. The sins of Sodom and Gomorrah, likewise have nothing to do with homosexuality.
For those that believe we are born straight & it is a choice, common sense question, What person in their right mind that is "straight" would choose the same sex, it doesn't make sense. If you are straight you are attracted to opposite sex, so why would they "choose" to be with something they are not attracted to? Also why would they choose to be an outcast of society & be abused by ignorant, hateful, misinformed ppl?

And every drug addict I've meet was born a drug addict? Then why do some choose to conquer their addiction?
That is what they are. I just cant agree about EVERYONE is born they way they grow up to be. That would mean predestination, not free will.
I do not feel homosexuality is natural, because the species does not procreate.
As far as it being a sin, so what, there are many sins. And that is one thing everyone is born into and are, sinners.
But even a drunk will tell you, they can not tolerate someone who is drunk when they are straight. (not drunk).

Hospitals do not accept blood from homosexuals becuase they have determined it is a high risk life style. Do you honestly think God would endorse a high risk life style? Of the 37 million people who have contracted aids world wide 27 million have died. Of all the known viruses aids is the quickest mutating which really makes a cure unlikely. I fail to see anything gay about this. In response to Tripper's question which says what persn n thier right mind if they were straight would choose the same sex? A pedophile could use that same argument. What peson in their right mind would want to be a outcast from society? A logical question? In fact why would anybody want to do anythng that would cause society to reject them and incarcerate them? Does he fact that people do things knowing society may reject them absolve them of their repsonsibility for their choices?
