it could be charged as a hate crime, depends on circumstances really... DA can make a deal and just get probation for harassment but none the less it CAN be charged as a hate crime

looked at criminal law and civil laws of NY.

usually this fell under the pranks by students.

but it is not a prank in today's sick society it could be taken as a warning? look at all the shootings lately?

was the professor hung in effigy or just a noose?

if effigy hanging then a crime of malice, threats, intimidation etc..

hate crime can only be charged if those caught if ever were caught-are of the opposite race cards--whites / black professor visa verse.

hostile environment caused--EEOC complaint.

it is really up to the persons room the item was hung at. does only one professor utilize the room? if so then a warning could be made. if numerous professors use the same class room for different cl assess then whom was the noose intended for? their perception of the event as, EEOC, racial, hostile, sick person, joke??

whether to charge or not to charge by campus security?

How does the administration of the college perceive this event?
