Earlier today my sister in law was rinsing dishes and then set them into the dishwasher to be washed. She shut the door but had not started it yet. Then all of the sudden there was a loud crashing sound from inside. One of the glass cups had just shattered into pieces for no reason. We were laughing about it but she thinks it is a ghost and I can't think of any reason for this to have happened.

Well as for stacking it wrong, you don't really stack dishes in the dishwasher. This isn't the first time she's done dishes.
If this can happen to a glass just sitting in the dishwasher and that is normal too you then I guess nothing is much of a surprise. If the glass shattered while in your hand then what would you say about that?

I wouldn't think it was a ghost unless things like that kept happening. There are poltergeists, but that just sounds like the glasses might have been stacked wrong, or something. Anything is possible, but if it kept happening then I would think it could be some kind of activity that was paranormal.

Umm, Would ghosts even be able to get into a dishwasher? I doubt that it was one, but still, I would honestly be freaked out of my mind if something like that happened to me. Has something like this ever happened before? How did the pieces of the cup look after you saw them? It may give you an idea of how it shattered....Oh, but who has time to sit and analyze why things happen these days anyway.

Some people jump to the ghost conlusion too soon. Your sister-in-law didn't load the machine properly and is making an excuse.

I've seen something like that happen before. I don't think it's a ghost, I think it's just physics, though I can't explain it.

I think our deceased have better things to do than to haunt a dishwasher. Sorry, that is my opinion

Yeah...
I mean there can't be an earthly reason for glass to shatter could there?
