It depends on what brand of contacts she wears. Good job for staying on her. There are just too many risks involved with sleeping in your contacts. If she continues to sleep in them, I would recommend that she switches to a brand such as Focus N & D- it is FDA approved for sleeping in them for 30 days. Most common infections that we see all the time is keratitis and ulcers. Ulcers leave scar tissue which can decrease your vision depending on where its located and how bad it is. Good Luck and hope this helps!!

Not personally, but I've seen lots. And had bad news for quite a few of such patients.
"Chronic hypoxia may lead to a syndrome that's become known as "corneal exhaustion syndrome," or CES. In this instance, previously successful long-term contact lens wearers suddenly become intolerant of additional contact lens wear."
That is, misuse can eat up your eye's ability to wear ANY contact lenses. Some authorities maintain laser treatment is a bad idea on such corneas, too. They can't absorb any more damage.
Permanant red-rimmed eyes from neovascularisation (new blood vessels) isn't too clever either.
How's she on gambling? Sleeping in contacts not designed for it you're likely to get away with it, or think you are, for a while.
With a big lottery, the odds are awful but you're only betting a dollar or a pound.
Over-wearing contacts the odds are more in your favour, but you're betting a good part of your eyesight.
It's difficult to persuade some people of this when the penalties, the consequences, may not become apparent for several, or many, years.
But, not totally unrelated, I do wish I could go back and tell my self of thirty years ago to take better care of my teeth.

I have worn extended wear lenses and when I sleep in them my eyes appear red in the morning. I think it was the pain of having to disinfect that caused me to just leave them in. The best thing I did was switched to disposable lenses. That way I was sure to get rid of the lenses before an infection from irritation could occur. The best thing is that I open a new pack every morning which is fast and easy.

If her contacts are not the Daily wears and are designed to wear and sleep in there is no harm in it. Acuvu Oasis is designed to be slept in, Daily Wears are not. I have been sleeping in mine for years and have never had a problem. But I also give my eyes a break periodically.

I sleep in them for long periods of time, usually two weeks, and then I throw them away.
Every person is different, though. The longest time I went wearing them must have been a month or more, and I finally got an irritation, took them out, put them back in, and then I had a HUGE irritation and had to stop wearing contacts for three weeks because (I forget what they called the actual disease) it might have spread and it was bad, blah blah. But every person is different, and some people may get infections after just one night of sleeping in them, or after an entire year.
They tell me not to sleep in them but it is just too damn irritating to put them in and take them out every morning/night.

She could get a fungal infection that could cause blindness. Contacts are not meant to be slept in, and they are not meant to be worn more than 12 hours (awake). Please tell her one of my friends almost lost her vision. It took weeks and weeks to get rid of the infection, and she can never wear contacts again, ever.

It's not good. they need time to disinfect over night. Otherwise bacteria and fungi can start to grow on them. when i have to sleep in them, i wake up with my eyes being really dry and my eyes are bloodshot. it's definitely not a good thing to do if you can avoid it. Tell her if she doesn't take them out at night she will have to wear glasses...

I wear mine for 30 days without removal. However, if I feel an irritation I remove them for two days.
