My mom is no longer with us. She was a good cook and so am I. The difference between us was that she was a very basic cook, simple but good meals. I am more adventurous than she was. I like to get into cooking with recipes and herbs and spices and am always looking for a recipe to cook something in a different way. Just noticed you mention the herbs and spices thing too. Maybe we are long lost sisters.

My Mom taught me to cook, clean house, sew, and everything about keeping the house. I didn't argue since I was the youngest and the older kids had to work in the fields. Mom needed help,so I sacraficed and stayed out of the cotton fields for years. It paid off because my wife was a spoiled little brat when I saved her from being an old maid at 17 years old. She can boil water now, and makes decent biscuits, but I do about 90% of the cooking. She does keep house pretty good when she's not playing Pogo games on the computer. Oh yea, she's let me stay around for 42 years so far..........#########

My mom was a good cook, but she was a usual recipe cook and she didnt experiment with herbs or such, but i do and i have had family members tell me that i am a better and more experienced cook then my mom, but i owe all the cooking i learned from her, i was plunked in a kitchen at 8 yrs old and made to cook a full meal by the time i was 13 yrs old and i havent stopped since, i love to cook and love to spend the time doing nutritious meals for my family...

I think I am and my mom would agree. There are some things she does that I have trouble doing like making homemade bread, the long way. Her spaghetti sauce is better than mine, hers always tastes the same, mine always changes. :)
I use much more fresh herbs and new interesting combinations though. I think that's just because that's what I do, she has nobody to cook for anymore and because of her generation...
One thing we agree on though? Nothing is processed or out of a can like chef boyardee, mac and cheese or rice a roni. Canned kidney beans or tomatoes or the like are the only canned things we use on occasion.

I think Im a better cook than my mom. Ofcourse sometimes I still have to ask how she does some things but others I have overcome and mastered. My dad taught her how to cook AND taught me how to cook. I can make alot of things that she cant.
