Just going by my history classes it tends to be that most anti-semites have been atheists in the past .i.e. Hitler, Stalin and Communist leaders.... Please may I ask you ? Do you hate me because I am Jewish ? If you do please explain why ? ( Dont worry...I can take it...I expect nasty and harsh sarcasm anyway )

Err...Hitler was Catholic, Stalin hated everyone that he thought threatened his power and he was very paranoid.

I think all religions are equally silly.

What? So now the stereotype for atheists is they hate the Jewish (I'll be talking about both.)? When did this happen?

First off, Hitler was christian. But's thats beside the point.

The definition of the term Atheist is a person who refuses to believe in the existence of a divine being. Where did you get the idea it meant hating all religions?

You see, the reasons why some atheists (myself included) bash on christians (as far as I've seen, although you guys believe the same general concept, we count you guys as a different group.) is because most of them tend to say STUPID things.

Lets take a MAJOR example. Evangelical Rev. Jerry Falwell (thank god he's dead.) claims that the terrorist attack against the world trade center occuring on Sept. 11 was helped caused through the aid of pagans, abortionists, feminists (people who fight against gender discrimination, mostly against women), gays, lesbians, ACLU, and People for the American Way... do I REALLY need to say more?

But just because we bash on them doesn't mean we bash on ALL religions. The reason being is that most people from most religions are SMART enough not to get into other people's affairs, especially if they don't believe in the same religion. The christians weren't. Instead, they go off to tell everyone that they're sinning and they need to be cleansed.

So, no. Because a person is atheist, doesn't mean they're ant-semitic. Racial wise, that depends on the persons tolerance of other races, and chances are their stance on religion won't affect that in any way. You're better asking Christians if they hate the Jewish and getting people saying they despise you and the people of your ethnicity, simply because they believe you killed the physical embodiment of their (and your) lord and savior.

Religion wise, we don't hate in your religion. We simply don't believe in it. There is a fine line between the two. Don't let atheists worry you about racial discrimination. That spot is already reserved for the racists. : )

You are apparently attending the wrong history classes, because Hitler was by no means an atheist. He in fact believed that he was doing the lord's work, as did so many other psychopaths. As for communist leaders, I wonder how many of them professed atheism for political reasons, but privately believed?
As an atheist, no, I'm not anti-semitic at all, whether you mean Jews or other semites. I am anti-religion, and I do not discriminate between them. They are all equally ridiculous and delusional to me. This does not mean that I hate you. It's more like pity, that you allow yourself to believe foolishness.

'course I don't hate you because you are jewish! By the way. You can't group people based on , say, 3 examples or 2. People are diverse, and the only thing that most atheists share is a disbelief in a any gods. Oh yeah, I believe that Hitler was christian. Or he believed in some sort of god. I don't know about the rest.

Wait a minute...communist leaders prosecuted jewish people???? I didn't think so.

No, not in the least!

I'm an atheist, but I was raised in a Jewish family - I still practice Passover and Hanukkah, but I tend to interpret the messages of the holidays in non-spiritual ways.

Just so you know (and by assuming that atheists are anti-semitic, you are unfortunately one step closer to believing in the stereotype "atheists are amoral", which is similar to "Jews are evil") that the leaders that you speak of had MANY other reasons to be crazy enough to detest an entire race. Perhaps their twisted and deranged version of atheism may have influenced their anti-semitic beliefs, but my version and most people's do not imply anti-semitism in the least.

Hitler was not an atheist. That has to be one of the most frequently repeated falsehoods on here. Besides, Hitler, Stalin and other Communist leaders were insane. Atheists are no more responsible for the insane among their ranks than Jewish people or Christians are. Lucky for you; the list of religious despots is much longer than the list of atheist despots.

No. I am not. I understand a lot more about religion than most give credit for and I believe this is true for a lot of atheists. I understand a good deal more about Judaism than do most non - Jews. No, I do not hate Jews and I was born and raised in the Deep South of the United States. So, there you are. History classes treat people as groups rather than as individuals. I treat people as individuals. If I consider you to be a jerk I will tell you so. If not, let's have a beer.

Jewish people are one of the ones I have the least issue with. In my experience, there tends to be a mutual respect of keeping out of each others business and not needing to convert others to ours, so I have generally liked them. So why start crap? I mean, trying to compare us individual human beings with a select few nasty "leaders" of the past, isn't that a Christian thing?

I have never seen prejudice like that from a Jewish person before. But... I guess there are a few in every type of group...

Edit: Ya know, here in the U.S. at least, we are kind of one of the lead groups that want our country to be equally everyone, not just Christians dominating. Either you must be that blind or you prefer that Christianity to be higher then everyone else's views rather then equal. I mean they are more commonly the anti-Semitic ones, so what is up with you.

Hitler was definitely not atheist. His Nazi party won elections because they were the Christian ALTERNATIVE to the Godless Communist party in Germany. The Nazi Party Platform had an article specifically in support of positive Christianity. Nazi issue belt buckles had in big letters Gott Mit Unz. ( God with us )

There are atheist bigots just like there are bigots in every crowd. Atheists do not believe that any god exists, that is the only unifying factor of atheism. One can't generalize beyond that.

If your history class is teaching that Hitler was atheist you have a piss poor teacher. Seriously. I would wonder why your history teacher is attempting revisionism. That shouldn't be allowed at any reputable school.

And to the ignorant who questioned about Communist persecution of Jews. During the Bolshevik Revolution thousands of Jews were killed by the communists!

Who is teaching history these days? This is really scary. You have the internet, get off Yahoo and go learn something useful!

reading most of these answers I've found the first common thread of belief of atheists, your history teacher is a bad history teacher.

I forgot to say atheists usually get along better with jews for the simple reason that Jews don't try to convert atheists or condemn them to hell for lack of belief.

I'm agnostic myself.

no longer unavoidably. If I see a submit of hers i'll be certain in line with what she says. The definition of antisemite is somebody who hates Jews so being a semite would not instruct one cant be antisemitic. Even Jews could be antisemites and a few are. Meir Kahane called them self hating Jews. Addition; mendacity that AIPAC supposedly has 'too lots potential' whilst in fact they have almost none (they could't even get u . s . of america to correctly known Jerusalem as Israels rightful capital, wow what robust potential they wield...no longer!!!) is antisemitism disguised as something else. And it has no longer something to do with loose speech because of the fact somebody asserting they hate Jews basically for present is likewise loose speech and in u . s . of america there is not any regulation against it considering the fact that's loose speech even even though it continues to be antisemitic at the same time as nevertheless being loose speech. And Jews are commonly only as semitic as every physique else. yet back the term ANTI-Semite does no longer mean hatred of all semites only like homophobe does no longer mean hatred of all homosapiens.

I am an atheist, and I do not dislike, or hate Jews! In fact, I will defend them any time I see an antisemitic statement, or put down!
There is one ignorant person on here, that is always posting crap like that! Anyone who slurs a religion, or a race, on this site, is to my mind, a coward!
And I don't have one single problem reporting them at all, every time, I see such filth, from any source! I abhor bigotry of any kind!
