Assuming there is some good reason why you have taken the kitten away from its mother at least a week too early and can't take it back for another week or two then:
You need to find a proprietary replacement for mother's milk. make sure it has plenty of fresh water and feed it with that from your finger or a dropper. I don't know which vet one of the other posters works for but stay well clear of them boys!
Tinned cat food is not a good idea. It will only give the kitten the squits and it can't digest the stuff, thus making it more dehydrated than ever.
And never, ever, ever take a kitten away from its mother until it is at least six and preferably eight weeks old. Some species need to be about 12 weeks.

Are you giving your kitty milk replacer? A 5 week old kitten may still need milk, or at least canned food; so if you're giving him dry food, that could be part of the problem. Otherwise, any number of things could be wrong, but a veterinarian would usually diagnose something called "Fading Kitten Syndrome"- where kittens start to fade and die without any obvious cause.

your kitten still NEEDS to be with its mom until its 8 weeks old if you cant get it back to its mom feed it premature baby fomula out of a kitten bottle or a eye droper once every 4 houres and twice at night till its 6 1/2 weeks old then feed it wet cat food then as it gets older mix in dry cat food soon it can eat all hard food.

I hate it when vets say **** like that. Call a different vet and insist the s/he see the animal. I had a vet tell me that my kitty had just sprained himself and not to bring him in the next week I took him to a different vet and kitty had to be put down.
GO see a different vet

that doesn't sound right...take him into the vet. He could have a virus or cold. Not good for a kitten...especially if he's not eating..he will die if he doesn't drink or eat...especially drink. For your sack..and especially the kitten..get him physically to a vet to get tested....good luck.
