Seahock....if you want to know....keep reading. It's supernatural.
The bible says we have 2 births. One by the flesh...as we all do. From our mothers. the second is spirit. Not all people will experience this because they choose not to. Rejection of Jesus Christ as their saviour will prevent them from salvation of their sin. Keep reading. Here are some scriptures to help you understand more.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
RO 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
RO 10:10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

For those who believe that baptism saves you this is not truth. What did Jesus say to the thief on the cross.....
LK 23:39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!"
LK 23:40 But the other criminal rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the same sentence?
LK 23:41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong."
LK 23:42 Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom. "
LK 23:43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."
Since this man was a sinner he needed a saviour and KNEW IN HIS HEART that Jesus was HE...the Son of God. This criminal was never baptised and yet in heaven with Christ.
Baptism is a sacrament. We are to be obedient to the word of God....but it does not save us from sin.

Ezekiel 36:26
26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. 28 You will live in the land I gave your forefathers; you will be my people, and I will be your God. 29 I will save you from all your uncleanness.
JN 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

GeeWye....You are right on target. The water in this verse speaks of the natural birth(the 1st birth) and the spirit is the spiritual birth (2nd birth)...thanks
Cirion....Remember that we can not judge who is born-again and those who are not on "fruit". Some born-again Christians maybe babes in the faith. It sometimes takes a little time for fruit to be produced. Some people never get out of the crib because they dont feed their "new man". If you dont feed it....the old man will be the one who lives.
This is why we MUST read God's word. The word, the word, the WORD...is what makes us change. Nothing we do, except read and study. We dont make the change...God makes the change within us. Godly fruit begins to grow. So instead of us judging....we should be fruit inspectors instead.

I keep saying the prayer for sinners to receive the Lord as my Savior. And I believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for me, but I think I'm doing something wrong because it doesn't seem to stick.
No, no, no, no I don't expect this huge bright light, explosion or anything like that. I pray a lot and a few of the times I get results. But a long, long time ago my parents told me that "God hates you too" and I can't seem to shake that. I just don't feel like I fit into the same world as Jesus Christ.
It's like I say the prayer, have a ton of hope, but then nothing changes. But I am not exactly sure what is suppose to happen/change either.

I have seen so many answers. To the guy that said water baptism was needed , Jesus also said that there is only one baptism , John the baptist referred to it when he said , I baptize you with water but one will come who is greater than I and will Baptize you with the Holy Spirit.
Being Baptized by the Holy spirit is the one true baptism . As the thief on the cross.
Their are many born again believers who are not of a born again denomination but never the less are. There are many believers who belong to a born again denomination who are not.
One cannot join a group or church and be Born again . One must experience the indwelling of Gods Holy Spirit , The comforter, receive and become a new creature.
The Lord showed me his grace and drew me to him in 1979. Since that time. I have been his. Praise the name of the Lord.

Amen and thank you for that question! I think you did a great job explaining it...one more scripture I would add and this one from the Old Testament Ezekiel 36:26...this is where God makes the promise to give us the new life that is revealed in Christ Jesus...it is here he says I will give them a heart of flesh and I will put a new spirit in them to follow my decrees. Praise God He is worthy!!!!

Amen Sister ! I am a born again believer but If anyone falls away or backslides, and then rededicates themselves unto the Lord. They must do their First works over. As they've lost their first love (Jesus Christ).
Revelation 2:4-5 But I have this (one charge to make) against you;that you have left (abandoned)the love that you had at first(you have deserted Me,your first love)
5 Remember then from what heights you have fallen, Repent (change the Inner man to meet God's will) and do the works you did previously (when first you knew, the Lord) or else I will visit you and remove your lampstand from It's place, unless you change your mind and repent.
*Amplified Version*
That's pretty clear.

Yes, I am born again.
And in answer to those who think that the "water" being referred to in John 3 is the water of baptism: Read the entire chapter again IN CONTEXT. Clearly, the water being referred to here is the "water" of the natural birth. Jesus is clearly saying that one must first undergo the natrual birth (thus, angels can never be born again by the way), then the spiritual birth to be saved. It is clear from this and other scriptures that Jesus characterized Himself as the one-and-only Way to God. Jesus on several occasions made it very clear who He was claiming to be, and that trusting in Him was the way to become born again. This is also very evident in John chapter 1. I usually encourage people to read at least the first 3 chapters in their entirity, to get the full context.
It is evident from your "Additional Details" that you have done your "homework." Keep it up, my sister!

Yes. I've been a Christian all my life but didn't actually know Jesus or really read the bible until a few years ago. I felt the Holy Spirit as a warm presence and just started sobbing for like 5 minutes. Real honest HAPPY tears. It was awesome.

I don't like that phrase. So many Christians claim to be born again but are not. They are only born again on Sunday morning at 10am, but then at 12 noon they are committing detestable sins. They are only born again from 10-11, and even then their minds are wandering and they are thinking impure things. I think very, very few people, if any, are truly transformed by Christ. The spirit of the church is faded.

Yes, I am. To those that are mocking some of us Christians for claiming to be born-again and yet not living the life, many of those people are NOT truly born-again but merely claim to be. If they truly are, then that is a sad thing, these kind of people are the ones that merely consider Christianity as "life insurance"... or more appropriately, "soul insurance."

Yes, I was born again when I believed and received Christ as my Lord and savior.
Romans 10:9,10
9That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
John 1:12
12Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—
John 3:6 explains John 3:5
5Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
The phrase "Born of Water" means human child birth.
So being baptized does not cause one to be born again.
Baptism should not occur until AFTER one has been born again.
You must believe first before you are baptized:
Acts 8:36-37 (KJV)
36And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Yes:
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. John 3:6-8.
