i think i have teenage depression. I have tried many online tests all stating that i have severe symptoms of clinical depression. I am thirteen years old and even though some may think i'm too young to be depressed, don't. I am constantly crying most of the time for the littlest things, and in school i cry without noticing it.I daze off during my academic classes and i feel sluggish and unenergized most of the time. My eating habits have changed drastically as well. I lose my appetite and i am hardly ever hungry. It gets hard for me to wake up in the morning, and even after i have twelve hours of sleep, i still feel tired. After school, i only go to sleep, and i really dont bother in eating that much. I force myself to wake up only because i need to do homework. I have cut myself before in the past, but not as much as i do now. I cut myself at least two times a day. I'm not as social as i used to be with my friends. I feel extremely lonely and i spend my nights crying myself to sleep.

Being depressed in your teenage years is very normal and all of your symptoms indicate that you are severely depressed.
Severe depression is very uncomfortible and you need to seek out your parents, a counselor, or some other trusted adult to talk about this either tonight or in the morning.
Depression is treatable and you really need to be treated.
Many people go through depression so don't feel ashamed to ask for help. There are so many people who want to help and so many who are experienced in helping.
All four of my children have gone through depression in their teenage years and I did too. It will get better but you need to seek out help for it now. Good luck.

I would agree that you need some help at this point. It is blurry line sometimes between a "bad day" and being depressed. Your loss of appetite, social isolation, and desire to sleep as much as possible seems to me to be very near if not in line with what most would call a state of mild to severe depression,
Try to find a suitable talk therapist to work with, A competent social worker/Counselor is good place to start. They CNS quickly determine if there is a need for any drug therapy to coincide the talk therapy and can also recommend a doctor.to oversee your medication,

Oh, I am so sorry that you are going through this!
Teenagers can have depression.
You need to tell a supportive adult that you are suffering. Can you confide in you parents (or guardians)... or is there a school counselor whom you can talk with?
You definitely need some support here.
I am saying a special prayer for you right now that you will find what you need to feel better.
I do hope you will follow up here and let us know how you are doing.

You really need someone to talk to who is trained to help you more than anyone on here could.Wished you could talk to your parents as they love you and would help you get the right kind of help.I had a friend who use to cut herself and she finally saw a Dr.and he gave her medicine and she is much better. She has stopped cutting herself,so it goes to show you that there is help out there for you but you have to seek it in order to get it so please do that .You are so young and can have a wonderful life ahead for yourself if you will only seek the help you need. You are not alone and people do care about you.Talk to a Counselor at school if you don't want to talk to your parents,or someone close in your family.I wish you all the luck and remember "someone does care"..

Teenage years are very hard. It does sound like you have a lot of symptoms of depression. If you want to try to treat it without trying anti-depressants you can do the following things
--find someone to talk with
--exercise every day
--get sunshine everyday
--take some fish oil or eat fish, walnuts, flax every day
--challenge your negative thoughts (for instance, if you think "I'm dumb, challenge it by remembering a smart thing you did.)
--get out with friends ESPECIALLY when you think you don't want to
--help someone else
--play with a pet
Make sure you talk with someone who will take you seriously. If you feel like you want to cut yourself, call someone. Talk with an adult that cares.
God bless.

First off, what you read online is extreme depression (clinical) and if you are able to go to school, you don't really have that.
Teens hormones are raging, this really messes with your emotions and brain chemistry and can cause depression (situational, not clinical).
Getting twelve hours of sleep is actually normal for a teen, but you should be refreshed. So, make sure you don't have mono or are eating badly, which can make you tired. You have to push yourself to eat and eat very healthy to keep your strength and mood up. No sugar (sodas, candy), no junk foods and no alcohol/drugs.
Exercise helps with mood; walking, biking, etc., elevates endorphins in the brain, elevating mood.
If you are cutting yourself, you need some professional help. I strongly suggest you speak to a counselor in your school. Something is not right when you are trying to hurt yourself, it is not normal. Take care and please seek out help.

Please, go see a doctor. Ignore the idiots who say you're too young to be depressed; I'm 20 and was going through the same thing at your age, and hey, guess what? I've been formally diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder.
Obviously your hormones aren't in balance, but this is NOT normal 'puberty'. Please go see a doctor.
