Ok, first off, I am a Christian. I have been witnessing to my uncle the past few months, and he keeps coming up with new things. He claims to be a Crystadelthian...or however its spelled. Ive never heard of it personally till he mentioned it. Heres what he says in the defense of his beliefs.

1. The Elohim created us, not God. How can a perfect God create imperfection? (I think Elohim means God, but as a plural noun, so more then one in one. But I can't find the proof)

2. You have to have some pride, envy, etc, otherwise you'll just fall over and go to sleep. I find the opposite,

3. God is the father, Jesus is literally his son, which God made when he impregnated Mary, (Jesus was made that day), and he doesnt know his place on the Holy Spirit.

4. He thinks he can Baptize himself with no one around.

5. Marriage is between Man and Women, not the people. So you can live with someone, have sex, if your married in your mind.

I have more, so refresh in 3 min or so.

6. There is no heaven, its just where God is now, not where we go. And hell is earth, and not actually a place of eternal torment.

7. When you die, you go to sleep. When the judgment comes, he thinks God will just look at peoples hearts and judge everyone at the same time, then everyone will just go back to sleep after realizing God is God.

8. You can do the seven deadly sins now cause they aren't considered bad, and the 10 commandments can be broken and you won't get punished cause God did away with it when Jesus came.

9. He also says God can't see time like we think, or control it, he thinks God can just look down the line and see whats going to happen at will, but he can't predict things on command type of thing.

10. We can destroy the planet, eat bad food, play videogames, and God wants us to basically.

11. There was a leader that was all high and mighty, but God took it all away then after tribulations, he got everything back 10 fold.

I think he meant Job, but he stated it didnt sound right.

Basically I need help finding the answers to these questions. He states its all in the bible and everything, but I keep finding the opposite. When I mention something he doesnt like, he says its symbolism for something else.

2007-10-10 14:35:45 · update #2

Don't worry, hes not like 90% of the world when it comes to religion and politics. If hes wrong, and you can prove it, he will change his mind without a moments notice. But its proving it.

Also, he may be playing with my head, making me look silly, etc, but if I can get him to ask questions and seek answers, its all worth it.

Also, everything I continue to find says Elohim means a plural noun. Its something that the English language doesn't have. But in Hebrew, it means more then one God in one.

Quit being a nuisance, and leave your uncle alone!! He has a right to his own beliefs.

1. Elohim IS God, three in one - Father, Spirit, Son. He created us and the world in perfection, but also gave us free will, along with the capacity to turn against him. Why? Because our purpose is to have a relationship with him. To love him. If we had no choice but to love him, it wouldn't be genuine love. It would be forced love. It would be a forced relationship. And a forced relationship is imperfect. After Adam and Eve sinned, the world became tainted with sin. It's not because of God but because of us - and that serpent Satan - that the world is now imperfect.

2. Yeah, that's just not true. Pride and envy are selfish emotions. Jesus teaches us to die to ourselves.

3. The Holy Spirit was given to the church after Jesus left. So it's as though Jesus is still here, just not in the flesh.

4. I don't think so. Baptism is meant to be a public expression. I have severe social anxiety to the point that I don't even like to leave my house, and I kicked and screamed all the way to the baptismal tank (not literally), but I did it anyway and I have no regrets.

5. Again, I don't think so. It would be too easy to walk away from such a "marriage", and I think that's what makes it so attractive to people.

6. Heaven and hell are literal places that exist in eternity. The Bible is clear about this.

7. Hah.. No. You've got to show him some scripture.

8. If his mind is made up that he wants to ignore the Bible, you won't have an easy time talking with him.

9. God exists outside of time, he created time, so yes he can see all things at once - past, present, and future. We still have free will, but he knows which path we will choose before we choose it.

10. No. We are stewards of the earth and our bodies are a temple.

11. Where is that in the Bible?

The questions you have asked are too extensive for a full response in this forum. I found a fairly good website that explores Christadelphianism in the kind of detail you probably need. It always seems that belief about the deity of Jesus is the first victim of using something other than Scripture as the basis for Christian belief. To avoid entanglement in endless debate of multiple unrelated topics, I suggest you focus on only two or three of the most important doctrines. Christadelphians deny that Christ is God in the flesh, that Jesus died as a substitute for our sins, and that Jesus rose physically from the dead. You might consider focusing on these things, because 1) They are so critical compared to other lesser issues, and 2) The Scriptural evidence is so overwhelmingly in favor of the traditional Christian understanding of these doctrines. It's something they teach you in law school: Zero in on your top two or three arguments, because you can win the whole case with just one of them. But don’t waste the judge’s time with minor arguments more difficult to prove. Focus on the winners. May God grant you insight, humility, and patience.

There are called "Christadelphians". They are a false cult.

Elohim is a Hebrew word which means God.

Jesus existed in eternity past with God the Father. In fact the Bible, in the New Testament, tells us the Jesus is the creator even more so than God the Father.

Below is a link which will help you understand what they believe and how those beliefs differ from Bible based Christianity.

1. Elohim is pleural for God, the Trinity.
2. God is perfect and so is Jesus Christ, God in human form.
Man was created without sin but a test was given & they fail.
So sin came into the world. Envy and such are sins of the
fallen man.
3. God the Holy Spirit place the perfect seed with Mary's ovum/
Thus, the perfect human man without sin, no human father.
4. Baptism doesn't save anyone, it is the Spiritual Baptism that
saves.
5. Marriage, one man and one woman.

He makes up his own rules. To be saved one has to believe
that Jesus is God the Son. 1 John 5:1a. Only the Holy
Spirit can convince him. Tell him who Christ is and pray
the Holy Spirit will convict him. That's all you can do. He is
2 Cor. 4:4. Check it out.

Elohim is one of the names of God. Where he got the rest of his silliness there's no telling. He certainly didn't get it from the Bible. Maybe he's just messing with you? If he's real defensive back off a little, but don't give up.

2007-10-13 16:30:25 · answer #6 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Elohim translates to God. It is a TITLE, not a personal name.
Example...King, Lord, Prime Minister, are TITLES.
Jack and Jill are NAMES.
So does Almighty God [ TITLE] have a personal NAME?
Yes.
(Exodus 6:3) And I used to appear to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as God Almighty, but as respects my name Jehovah I did not make myself known to them.

Jehovah is just the English language translation of God's personal NAME...YHWH...or YaHWeH...
We have put in the vowels to make it easier to say.
The whole point though is to obey Jesus and USE his Father's NAME...in worship. Not hide it.

In modern Bible translations, the Holy NAME has been wrongfully removed and replaced with the TITLE...LORD.

Something like 7,000 times.

The New World translation has restored it in compliance with what Jesus asked.

(John 17:6) “I have made your name manifest to the men you gave me out of the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have observed your word.

NAME...MANIFEST...not TITLE.

Jehovah did not cause imperfection...Adam and Eve did.
they were created perfect but were warned of the consequences of disobedience.
(Genesis 2:16-17) And Jehovah God also laid this command upon the man: “From every tree of the garden you may eat to satisfaction. 17 But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die.”

Since then, we have all 'inherited' death.

2. Pride is not something we should cultivate. Humbleness is much better.

3. The ' Holy Spirit' is simply God's POWER, what He uses to get things done. It is not a separate entity.

4. Even Jesus, perfect as he was, used John [ the baptiser] to baptise him. And john was an ordinary man with two parents.
Jesus is the example.

5. To be properly married is to express publically to the world in general that you have decided to live together. To just 'know' it in your own mind is not a public declaration.
That is why at a wedding, there are 'official' witnesses, who co sign the marriage papers.

I wouldn't worry with trying to disprove his beliefs (which are of the anti-Christ spirit) so much as just presenting the gospel message of Jesus contained in the Bible. When you show who Jesus really is it shines the light of truth on deception and error in love for their souls salvation.
How well do you understand your beliefs about these things? What is the most important belief to hold or in other words - What must we do to be saved?
The gospel is simple and the Bible says that even a fool (someone without understanding) need not err (make a mistake) therein. Once a person accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, having repented of their sins, God will teach them more about Him on a personal level and they will begin to grow in the grace and knowledge of the truth since they will then have their spiritual eyes opened and begin to meditate on God's Word and pray for wisdom and God will grant it. He has never failed to do so. So, forget the intellectual battle he wants you to engage in for debate's sake. Pray for the words of wisdom, when to speak, when not to and the scriptures to study with him and the truth will shine through to every heart hungry for more of God. I would simply type up and print out what I know to be true about Christ, salvation, eternal souls and their two possible choices of destination, and then hand it to him complete with scripture references. Above all, pray that God will open his eyes to the truth.

1) Elohim is the the Hebrew name for God, the plural meaning of it is explained here but like all religion writings, it makes no sense to me! (I was going to say it's all GREEK to me...pun there, get it?)
http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/05393a.htm
2)Basically you are saying we have to have emotions in order to feel alive and I agree with that.

3) OK, you said:
God is the father, Jesus is literally his son, which God made when he impregnated Mary, (Jesus was made that day), and he doesnt know his place on the Holy Spirit.
First of all, that whole immaculate conception thing with a married YOUNG woman makes no sense to me. Isn't one of the commandments "thou shall not covet thy neighbor's wife". Is it OK if she doesn't live in your neighborhood or what?
I am totally lost on your statement that Jesus doesn't know his place on the Holy Spirit.

4) Tell your uncle he is not baptizing himself, that is called TAKING A BATH...

5)You can have sex if you are married in your mind? Oh honey, you have a lot to learn. My ex must have been married 200 times!

Here is a link as to the word "Elohim".

I believe if you further research this name and use this as a "starting point" you will discover other possible terms to which he might refer too.

Those who say Elohim is a plural GOD obviously do not talk to the people who protected that name for 5,000 yrs.

Jews consider anyone who says God has a son or partner as being a Polytheist and it is Breaking the First Commandment.

Islam also says adding any partner or son to GOD is the Cardinal Sin.......... The Lord of Abraham has no son.

Any "god" who has a son is not the Lord of Abraham.
