Calamine lotion, some Tylenol, put gloves on their hands or mittens to keep them from scratching open the sores. You can also try an oatmeal bath!

"You'll need a blender, food processor or coffee grinder and 1 cup of oatmeal. You can use instant oatmeal (unflavored), quick oats or slow cooking oats- all work equally as well. For babies, you'll only need about 1/3 cup per bath.

Blend or process the oats on the highest setting until you have a very fine, consistent powder. To test the colloid property of the oats, stir 1 tablespoon oats into a glass of warm water. If the oats readily absorb the water and give it a milky look and a silky feel, you've blended long enough.

Sprinkle the blended oats into the bathtub and distribute it as evenly as you can, breaking up any clumps. Be sure to help the child into the bath as the oatmeal is going to make the tub even slicker!"

I just went through this with my 8 month old. Give your child Tylenol for the pain and rub calamine lotion all over them. Now if they are old enough to scratch then put mittens on their hands cause if they scratch they will leave scars. Also to relieve the pain you can put your child in an oatmeal bath that will sooth them. Make sure they drink lots of liquids and keep them inside and out of the sun, the sun can make them itch even more cause of the heat. Also your child doesn't need a bunch of clothes on either cause this will just irritate the pox and make your child more unhappy

Well take them to the pediatrician to have them checked out. I had a secondary infection when I got chicken pox so I had it really bad. Get calomine lotion and some oatmeal bath. Tylenol for fever or discomfort. I would also reccommend if they are really young and do not understand that they should not itch to put some sort of socks or mittens on their hands. Make it fun and let them turn them into puppets if they want to....hey whatever works LOL Good Luck!

Aveeno baths ( oatmeal type soap) help with the scabs and itchiness. Wear light clothing . Keep bedroom well ventilated. Wash bedding at least every 3 days and keep the environment clean- air-surfaces- and fabrics.
If the child is hungry make sure the meals are light and nutritional- no sodas or fatty foods. keep hands away from face . If the child develops pink eye next use steeped cool tea bags on the eyes as a soother and to help with the crustiness of the eye.

Well first of all ask yourself this, "Have I had chicken pox?"
Reason I ask this is because I never had them. I'm a mom of 24 year old daughter and 9 year old boy. Ok now what to do for him: http://www.intelihealth.com/IH/ihtIH/WSIHW000/9339/9704.html (read that)

Diagnosis

If you or someone in your household develop a skin rash, see your doctor. He or she may suspect chickenpox over the phone, especially if that person has not had the chickenpox vaccine or the chickenpox disease before, but it is important for the doctor to look at the skin rash. It also will help to know whether the patient has been exposed to someone with chickenpox, although this is not necessary to make the diagnosis. Special blood tests, such as the FAMA test (fluorescent antibody to membrane antigen) and the ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay), are also available, but they do not need to be done in most patients. Sometimes your physician may scrape a chickenpox blister to examine under the microscope.

I think everyone pretty well answered this but here is one thing I did not see. When I was a child I had a chicken lesion in my ear! It would not have been noticed if I had not devekoped an ear infection. My drum ruptured and released the pressure but I felt like my ear was on fire.

This may sound stupid but if you have more than one child, put them together so they all have it at once. You may be pulling your hair out but better to do it one time than several. A far as treating it, use calamine lotion and some childrens tylenol. Try to entertain them to keep their mind off of it and stress the fact that they shouldn't scratch.

As well as all the other answers, if your child was with other children whose mums are, or are trying to get, pregnant, then you should ring them and let them know - they need to go see their doctors to make sure they are protected against catching it because it can damage an unborn baby.

The same's true if they've been in contact with a child or adult with a lowered immune system, e.g. someone having chemotherapy.
