In my state it is legal, and I think that it is probably safer than wearing flippies or heels.

In spite of persistent myths, there are NO laws against driving barefoot in ANY US state. Unfortunately, this myth is so common that even some cops believe it... but everyone who believes this please see source and stop spreading this falsity.

Some cops are convinced it's unsafe and even though they know it's not illegal may try to write you up for unsafe or reckless driving, however please see the second and third link in the source, for two sites (one from the Michigan PD, one from an Australian newspaper) making it clear that driving barefoot is no more unsafe than many types of footwear that are regularly worn and could even be considered safer than many kinds of shoes.

OMG I had never thought of that... I drive bare foot everyday. I also think it's dangerous to drive wearing flip flops and heels. Also I am just a better driver barefoot. I fell like I step on the gas too much when I am wearing shoes. I am seriously going to look it up right now.... thnx.

It's not against the law here, Wisconsin. I think it would be less dangerous to drive barefoot than in high heels or flip flops. I would know, I've done that. I find it much easier to slip them off and drive. Trying to drive with heels is hard work!!! And definately not safe!!!

boy that is the silly law I ever heard! Oh, wait a minute! Are you talking about driving car or motorcycle? Fred Flintstone stop his car with his bare feet! How come he don't wear out his feets like our tires does!

I was told that in our state it is not against the law to drive bare footed. My sister in law does it all the time. I tried it once and well, I just felt naked. lol. So even though it is OK to do so I will still wear my shoes.

it is against the law in my state... which is a bit problematic because I can't drive with shoes on... but that's how I was taught so I just keep a pair of flops in the floor board and slide them on if I get pulled over... I mean how will they know?
I think it's safer I tried driving with shoes once... I swear scariest experience of my life

I think it is illegal in WI, but I do it anyway sometimes. Certain shoes I wear are more dangerous to drive with than barefeet. I feel like I have more control on the pedal because my foot is flexible.

How are the police going to catch you when they pull you over and you put your shoes on before they approach your drivers window.

I do drive with bare feet in the summer and its just as safe as driving with your shoes on.

In Pennsylvania it is illegal to drive barefoot, I personally think it is stupid just like the law that says we have to wear our seat belts wile driving but it is OK to ride a motorcycle without a helmet. PA also has a law against oral sex too. This State whoops ( Commonwealth ) thinks it can control every aspect of your life.
