We picked up a emaciated kitten and got him back on his feet. However, in the "get kitty better" phase. He has become an indoor cat.

This is the first time we have ever had an indoor cat. We clean the litter box out often and yet the house just smells bad. What do you use to get the cat smell out of the house?

Regular cleaning of the cat box and use of a deodorizing catbox filler is recommended. Baking soda and charcoal are two ingredients that companies say are the best for clean smell.

We've got 4 cats and one box, and the house smells fine.

Trick is to sift whenever the box is used. Clean out the wet and the solids whenever you see the surface disturbed. A cat will usually pee twice and poop once in a day. DO NOT put it into the kitchen garbage, keep the stuff in a plastic type bag (I use an empty cat food bag) with folded top, and dump that outside in the garbage once a day to avoid smells.

What you feed also affects the smell of the poop. Some foods with fish are terrible smelling when they come out the other end. It's one reason I don't feed IAMS cat food... Don't give the kitten milk either, that has too many natural sugars in it and the poor cat either gets diarhea or farts because of that.

Experiment with different types of litter until you find one that controls the odor. If you are cleaning the box often you shouldn't be having a problem with smell unless the cat just recently had a bowel movement. My cat chases us out of the house every morning at 10 because he doesn't believe in covering his stuff. He is a proud one and wants to share.

I use scoopable kitty litter and usually scoop out all the clumps everyday or everyother day. I keep a box of sealable sandwich bags close and usually it all fits in that and it's an easy clean up! I also use arm and hammer kitty litter deoderizer - it actually smells really good.

BAKING SODA HELPS. ALSO THEY DO MAKE LITTER DEODORIZER THAT WORKS LIKE BAKING SODA, YOU FIND IT NEXT TO LITTER OR NEAR THE SHAMPOOS AND STUFF.
BUT IT REALLY COMES DOWN TO THE KIND OF LITTER YOU ARE USING. YOU MAY NOT BE USING ONE THAT NEUTRALIZES THE LITTER ENOUGH.
YOU CAN TRY USING MAYBE A LITTER MEANT FOR MULTIPLE CATS, OR THEY HAVE THOSE CRYSTAL ONES THAT HOLD IN THE ODOR LONGER, THAT COULD HELP. OR TRY CHANGING THE LITTER BOX COMPLETELY AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK. STARTING FRESH SHOULD HELP.
GOOD LUCK.
