To answer your question, there are no known antibiotics that will hurt or weaken a child's teeth. However, side effects such as intrinsic staining (within teeth) can result from antibiotic such as tetracycline. These stains are not commonly found in children anyone since doctors are aware of the potential side effect. Also tetracycline will not effect teeth that are already erupted.

Only tetracycline antibiotic. When given to a child who is forming adult teeth it will cause a black, permanent stain on the child's adult teeth. It doesn't necessarily hurt or weaken the teeth, just causes a horrible stain. The stain is permanent and cannot be whitened. The only way to get rid of it is haveing veneers placed over.

It's amazing but I thought I'd never get white teeth! After a great dental cleaning I would be fine for a while, but then for all the tea and coffee, I got stained teeth. So, one day I asked a friend if they were born with just great white teeth, or they had a "secret ingredient". They brushed with Colgate regular morning and night and flossed. Secret ingredient: Take 1/8-1/4 cup water and mix an equal amount of HYDROGEN PEROXIDE. Take a small mouthful and swish it in your mouth, around your teeth and gums for 30-60 seconds, then spit out. Continue with the rest of the measured out amount. Do this each morning and each night. Your teeth will become whiter gradually. It feels funny the first time you swish with half/half water/peroxide. But it does whiten. Of course, the less coffee and tea keeps the teeth white. As Hydrogen Peroxide is relatively inexpensive, it whitens, freshens, and is an antiseptic.
