Dylan, if you think that Gordon wouldn't have broke Sr.'s record you're crazy. Dale Sr. had at best 2-3 more years in him....and may have won a total of five more races. Gordon was going to catch him regardless.

I'd say that Gordon and Dale Sr. are in a tie. If you put them both on identical points systems, Jeff would be well on his way to his sixth championship.

While I like Jr., he doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same category. 17 wins/zero championships does not compare to his father's 76 wins/7 championships and Gordon's 80 wins/4 championships.

I am admittedly NOT a Jeff Gordon fan, but let's give credit where credit's due. Jr isn't even close to either Sr or Gordon, and Sr would be over 50 years old and would most likely be retiring or taking the show to BGN or trucks like all of the other older drivers. Whoever said if Sr hadn't died, Gordon would never catch him, is assuming that Sr would still be competitive enough to win championships. Even still, Gordon could logistically race another 20 years himself. He's on the verge of capturing championship #5, and you know how he gets when he's on a streak. Plus, Sr won his races in an era before multi-car teams and not nearly as tough a competitive field as is out there in this day and age. Gordon may be a camera hound, prissy model, but *sigh* he IS a great race car driver... I think as time passes, he'll be seen as one of the all-time greats. People hated Darrell Waltrip, now they admire him. They hated Dale Sr, and now they idolize him. History shows we will probably end up in love with Gordon, after all.

I am a huge Gordon fan but I think that Dale Earnhardt Sr. was a great driver, and that he is the best driver out of those three, and Gordon is a close second, as he is closing in on some of Sr.'s records, and already broke a few this year. Then Jr. has some talent but he is no where as accomplished and talented as his father and or Gordon, yet he learned how to drive from one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history. I think that once Jr. goes to HMS that he will start to win races and eventually championships and get the equipment that he deserves. We will finally know if its the Driver that cant perform or the equipment that DEi has given Jr. but we know that its capable as Truex Jr. has won this year and Jr. has won in past years, but this year the merging of teams and engine programs has hurt DEI, and with Jr. leaving everything is going downhill.

To get an honest answer to this question is like asking who has the best mom.... it doesn't matter if a guy's mother was a crack whore, he still is going to vote for his mom and get upset at anyone who talks bad about her. Truth is irrelevant with questions like this..... and people don't look at fact like the stats. Gordon has the most wins and 4 championships (six under the same point system Sr. won his seven), but in the record books Dale Sr. has more Championships. And Jr is not even as good as Stewart or Johnson as far as stats. Does anyone deny those are accurate FACTS?

So, who is the best? I guess it would depend on either two ways of deciding.... either who you like more despite the stats OR which has more value WINS or CHAMPIONSHIPS? If you go with WINS, Gordon is the best. If you go with CHAMPIONSHIPS, Dale Sr. And if you go with who you like, then you might pick Bowyer or Kayne.

Just remember, if you pick CHAMPIONSHIPS and Gordon somehow wins the Championship this year and a few more before he retires, you may have to accept Gordon as the best. LOL

I wasn't going to answer this Q because I think you can't compare drivers from a different era to another in there prime but there was was answer that caught my eye and that was evan's. You are right without Dale Sr. I'll throw in Petty 7&7 NASCAR wouldn't be as popular as they are today. And one thing for sure if Dale Sr. was still around I find it hard to believe that he would put up with the crap that NASCAR has come up with with there 3 dumbest rules since hes was lost to us.
Always was a Sr fan and now I am a Earnhardt Jr. fan but I do know racing and I would say Dale Sr was probably one of the best all time drivers with what he had to work with and then j.g. and Jr. I think this can change though not soon but with Jr. back with a team that is up to date not like DEI falling behind under miss managment Jr can and will rise to his potentual

Dale Earnhardt Jr followers are all jealous of the fulfillment of Jeff Gordon. If Dale Earnhardt Jr have been prevailing races and championships like Jeff Gordon, there does no longer be an argument. interior the eyes of the Jr followers, Jeff Gordon is a threat to their motive force because of the fact he can get it completed.

I would have to say Jeff Gordon because he has 80 wins and would already have 6 championships under the old system. Three of his championships came while racing against Dale Sr. including 1995 when Dale finished second. Oh yeah, Gordon's only 36 years old.

1. Dale Earnhardt Sr.
2. Jeff Gordon
3. Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Dale Sr. drove in cars and won in that Jeff and Jr. never had
a chance to drive. Basically he was a winner in the old
school driving and also new school, that we have now.
DaleSr. was the only driver to be able to master both. It
doesn't make any difference how many of Dale Sr.'s records
Jeff beats, he will never be as good, at least in my book.

Dale Sr will always be a legend in my book Gordon to be honest i think is way better than SR He would have suprased Sr regardless of what anyone thinks He will be a legend in his own time Now Jr He has had a Bad start in his cup series
I think he made the best when he went to HMS he will be a contender of the championship next year in fact all the HMS boys will be in the chase and will be blowin the doors off everyone I am willing to bet between all HMS boys total number of wins will be in the mid 20ies
